My sequencer sucks/rocks (Ideal sequencer)

Do you find that the native Soft Synths in Orion are better optimized than 3rd party VSTi/DXis? and has this been a recent development that I have perhaps missed?

It gets harder and harder to tell these days as very little ever taxes my Athlon64 but WaspXT generally uses less than 1% per voice, rising to about 4% if you use Dual Oscillator, lots of filter modulation and distortion. In ORION it helps noticably to set appropriate polyphony for every generator.

1. I don't either, but it is uncluttered and easy (since it doesn't have much to conceal )

But its hard to get a decent overview from because somethings are vertical and others horizontal and not well aligned. you need to spend a lot more time taking it in when looking for problems.

2. No they don't have the same cpu hit, and that even without going into stuff like e.g. SX keeping all plugs enabled during a track, while logic or dp only when in use.

That's apoint, I suppose, but I can't believe that any host wouldn't do that.

3. Good enough != best : We are describing the ideal host, not the best one around. Why settle ?

Because it works perfectly and I know how to use it?

4. I'll give you this one : It's your ideal sequencer - you don't need midi, that's great.

Everyone needs MIDI, its just a matter of how much and what features.

5. No it doesn't. Total integration is different. Still the orion workaround is not bad.

How? If I choose an editing interface from a right-click menu its exactly the same whether its integrated or not, except maybe that i have to save to get it to update but the advantages of two undo lists more than compensate.

Just one last thing. ORION is not god ....

How can you be sure? Have you prayed to it and not had your prayers answered? I think maybe you need to reaccess your faith and commitment.

I've been posting a lot lately concerning hosts and some may think that i'm blowing Samplitudes trumpet so to set things straight this is a post where we fantasize about our ideal host and say what things we envy in each host. Feel free to pitch in.

My ideal host would have :

1. Tracktion's ease of use and uncluttered interface
2. Reason's low cpu hit
3. Pro-tools / Logic's / DP's automation
4. Logic's MIDI and flexibility
5. Samplitude's audio features and object editing
6. Energy XT's routing
7. Audition's spectral edit mode
8. Logic's Instrument's
9. Cubase/Nuendo's : Nothing
10. Sonar's Midi FX ( well maybe cubase 2 )
11. And a sony oxford/voxengo/korg/gmedia bundle of effects and synth's for free

Bash away / Add stuff

A guy can dream.

My dream host:

1. FLS's easy step-sequencer (especially for drum programming), piano roll, basic MIDI recording features, & FM synth (Sytrus).

2. Orion's mixer, drum synth (XR-909), drum kits, & waveable synth (Wavefusion)

3. Live's audio sequencing & loop recording features (to forever replace FLS's playlist) with Acid Pro's ability to change the song's key!

4. Audition's audio recording & editing features (for vocal recording & final mastering).

5. Accept all instrument & effect formats (VST, DX, RTAS, Rewire) on the PC.

6. The built-in sampler must read all existing sample formats (but no giga!!!).

7. All of this price between $300 to $400.

my ideal host would be ORION with AUDIOMULCH build in.

I have both, and i really would like to integrate them to each other. AM has no rewire, so that'Äs not possible atm.
I have also tried nearly every Host available, but i see myself returning to ORION and AM every time.

i pretty much agree with the 1st post ecept that would have the mixing and tracker of buzz and the piano roll/step sequencing of FL. but ext is getting close to all of those imho

Yes indeed Buzz is quite a powerfull app...

my ideal would be fruityloops 5, but with the following:

1. have theability to save controller link assignments per track as bones.

2. compatibility with the TC Powercore.

I have a powercore right now and am forced to stay with cubase, despite fruity being my first fcall when i want to get something down quickly.

if thos two improvements could be made, goodbye cubase.

as far as orion and audiomulch working together, could midiyoke do it for ya?

Unfortunately no, because i need everything in one place and if i would have to work in 2 programs with 2 files to keep up it makes the workflow way too complicated. And the included latency of midiyoke is another issue.
but thank you anyway
