Well it's been a bleak day here, because in the Local Education Authority where I work (overseeing keyboards/technology/etc provision for our 110 or so schools) I have been advised that as there is still no confirmed release date OR upgrade price (in spite of me sending PMs, emailing Mackie directly, etc) we will now NOT BE ABLE to buy T2 before the end of the UK financial year.
In effect this means that we probably shaln't be buying it here at all, because the finances in state education are fairly tight and fiercely fought over. I've lost the fight for this. And I think that an impression has been fostered that Mackie are "unprofessional", as it was succinctly put to me.
We ARE buying Reason 3.0 which I had also requested, because the March 10 ("early March", anyone?) release date has been advertised for some time, videos/screenshots/full info available and upgrade price advertised well before Christmas. Whatever their gameplan, I am really sad that Mackie have missed it here.
Because of the ReWire bug in T1.6 - which even our beginner students have noticed and remarked upon - staying with the old version is no longer an option. Our Reason course is now too well established.
Sorry that I was negative on another thread earlier today - that was uncalled for, and I appologise to the T2 beta testers whose heads I chewed. All I can say is that this has been a very, VERY upsetting day for me, because I am a big fan of Tracktion.
Our Music Service also owns Cubase, as do nearly all the schools I visit, and I suspect I will be forced back to the Steinberg world now

I'm curious which bug you speak of? I know of quite a few Reason/Tracktion bugs, but I can't really think of any that are dealbreakers - just annoyances mostly. I use the combo a lot too. The problem/bug is that the first note of Reason is dropped in Tracktion. So for example, if you are running a ReDrum loop as a backing beat, the first hit of bar one is missing.floyd wrote: I'm curious which bug you speak of? The cure is to offset the start of your track to bar two, and remember consistently to start your tunes on bar 2, not bar 1.
If you do all the sequencing in Tracktion's window there is no problem. The bugs kicks in if you do any of your sequencing using Reason's sequencer.
But before you conclude the problem is with Reason, I can confirm that this problems does not exist when you use Reason as a rewire client within Cubase, Adobe Audition, Ableton Live, FL5 (demo)and Sonar 4 (demo), having tried all of these alternatives.
It's not a deal breaker for me as an experienced musician/teacher, but it is confusing for students just starting out, and suggests to them that the software is broken, annoying, or "just for geeks".
As teachers we are trying (not always successfully!) to show that music technology is accessible, and I have been locally and nationally (I am an author and regular conference speaker) holding up Tracktion as an outstanding example of how this goal can be acheived.

I think I meantioned this in the past, but I think needs repeating. Assumtions are not healthy for a company and do not create a 'buzz'. A fantastic example a buzz creating is, spectasonic's stylus rmx, and reason 3.0. I knew well in advance (at least a couple of months) that RMX was going to be released on Oct.28 (i think that is correct). I had my funds ready and did not spend them on something else. Mackie needs to communicate, that all. The cat is out of the bag, there is nothing to protect by staying silent. Remember this: many of us who bought Tracktion, bought it not only because of the software, but because of the community. Jules was Tracktion. I even purchased a licence of XT, just because I want to support Jorgen. I have yet to use the software. I have no trouble with the software not being ready in March, I just think it makes sense to say "hey, all is on track for March" or "We have a bit more to work on and it looks like we need some more time" Either one of those answers would be great. The answer is better than the assumtion.

I agree with Lance 100%. I have limited funds available for music right now, and I need to know ahead of time when T2 is going to be available.
That said I think Mackie will make the March ship date... Their reputation is riding on it - and since they are new to the software business this product launch will give an all-important first impression to customers. If they fail to deliver, it will be pretty bad on a PR level.

I agree entirely with your point Lance. It's about planning your budget/spending. Whether you are an institution or an individual, the same applies.

I'm fairly sure they will too, but I have no hope of persuading my superiours that it will or won't because of lack of information from Mackie. After Saturday 19th my term ends, and we would have had to order/receive/be invoiced/pay before then in order to hit the month/financial year end.
