To be hampered by the restrictions of slavish emulative affordances always struck me as a bad way to go with software. Using a modular software app, the concepts of inserts and sends are complete anachronism, as it all becomes just a bunch of simple routes and level adjustments (ie why would I want to be limited to 2 sends, when I could have dozens, hundred even).
Reductive elegance like that should be the goal of all software designers.
Funny enough, the most complicated stuff to use in energyXT is the sequencer module, which is conceptually closer to Cubase than anything else in its works.
How best to denigrate non-modular hosts?

I know I imprinted massively on Audiomulch because it was the first VST host I encountered, but it still seems to be to be incredibly intuitive and elegant in its audio routing.Lunch Money wrote:Doesn't get much more elegant! that is a really simple argument to make. So simple, it has become the default argument of those that don't know anything about using Energy XT, or Tracktion.
It is nearly as simple as it is inacurate.
It's like, the best way to deal with the frightening idea that there are way too many wonderful options than my wee little brain can comprehend, is to just not have any options.
The fact is, anyone with even the most rudimentary experience with EnergyXT knows that you only get complex if you want to. So, you do simple until you find yourself thinking, 'I wonder what it would be like if I ....', and then instead of having to just settle for what someone else decided was the 'way it should be done'(an idea that seems narrow minded to say the least when dealing with a virtual studio environment)you can just DO it. Just like that, you cna 'dick around' and draw a line between two points (oh I get exhausted just thinking about such mind boggling complexity) and bang, you have another level of submixing, or a midi controlled envelope controling send level on that mixer, or countless other things. It is only as complex as you make it. You can even make it MORE simple than routing-impaired sequencers, if that's what you want to do.

although I didn't name eXT at all. I still say that all that twiddling and hand wringing over "limitations" is all a bunch of BS. It's never stopped me from doing what I want.
