Scenario- I've finished a song. I've rendered it to an audio file and I like how it sounds. But now I've got a bunch of useless clips left over and I'd like to get rid of them as they're taking up a lot of precious storage space.
I thought about archiving but doesn't that save everything in a project?

Export as a lossless archive will do what you want.
Another function is to use "find orphan clips" in the project window. What it will do is track down any clips that aren't used in any edit, and consolidate them in a list. Then, in theory, you just need to select them all, and "delete source file" along with the item when the option presents itself.
So:
1. Delete any edits that you're done with
2. "Find Orphan Clips"
3. Delete the orphan clips that are found, including source files
* I'd rather export an archive, myself
** if you DO try the orphan clips thing, please make a backup of the entire project first, "just in case" something goes amiss.

if you're on the EDIT page, then click EXPORT and create an archive of the edit. that will make a nice solid wooden archive containing just the files used in the edit. you can pick whatever compression level you like, but uncompressed or lossless is obviously the best choice for maximum fidelity.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
