OK, then, I won't. ;)
:D It's just that I know someone whose new hobby (unwittingly) is beatslicing - I haven't got that sort of commitment !

PT wrote:Jens, are you saying that Magix Music Studio 2005 midi studio doesn't allow insert effects?

I've been thinking of getting this.
Yup - that's what I was saying - sorry :-(
what does this mean then, about the midi studio, on magix's page:
Automatic/manual mixer
up to 48 effect inserts, 2 master inserts

:?
totally misleading:

you have four send track with each containing three slots which you can send to audio/instrument tracks - that's it - oh and each audio track has a three-band eq where you can enable/disable each band induvidually

One slightly niggly limitation with Express - no save to .wav feature. Although in a pinch, you can just route the outs of your sound card back into the ins and record it with a different application.

Subject - I know the pay to play version of Acid will re-wire into T, but not the Express version. For me, I wanted time stretching for drum loops, but I'm a beat slicer convert now with Tracktion's only limitation that it can't quickly group clips into a single clip for looping.

this probably ties with clip level automation as my most yearned for Tracktion feature.

I'd like to see a merge function, too.

I hate to beat this to death, but are you sure about the inserts.

I tried the demo of the e-version of Audio Studio and it has insert effects.

I tried the e-version demo of Audio Studio... and to get a bit off-topic, while I don't recall what the inserts were like, I fairly actively disliked the whole experience. :(

I didn't notice any elastic audio functions, so I'm guessing I'd have to buy the Deluxe, no?

we were speaking about the midi studio - totally different program (Midi Studio - Logic 4.x Light, Audio Studio - Samplitude Light)

Of course the Audio Studio has inserts (but no midi)

To stay on topic - you can go a long way with Magix AudioStudio's elastic audio and at the same time you have a great all round audio recording (e.g. loop recording  ), editing and mastering tool. I find myself finishing nearly every project in AudioStudio (TBH i'd like to find myself finishing any project at all, lately  )

It's part of MusicStudio - deLuxe version with elastic audio for under 70 € - and you can regard MidiStudio as an additional bonus. I'm not so shure that Tracktion users will like MidiStudio. On the other hand it has decent midi editing and with its new ReWire capability and combined with e.g. EXT there is not much left you cannot do with it. Workflow, though is a lot more complicated than Tracktion's (IMO).
