Well as far as my workplace are concerned, no we won't unfortunately. The financial year end is upon us and the time for using up "left over" money from this year's spending allocation is now almost over. Term ends on the 19th March, and although T2 may well be available by then Mackie in their wisdom have still not announced an upgrade price or release date.

I can't convince my boss that he should buy a product for which there is no material evidence of existence :(

As a personal user I'm sure I will buy T2 of course (although I'm moving towards the "try the demo first" camp), but buying larger quantities for education is now postponed indefinitely.

So failure to provide adequate information to customers has prevented Mackie from clinching the deal in our case.

I think that most potential customers probably at present have only vaguely heard of Tracktion - the uptake for T2 will I'm sure go way beyond the loyal T1 user base.

But in terms of that loyal T1 fan-base, I think a lot of people can probably identify with your frustration and sadness Haydxn. It really is a shame.

I for one have to put off upgrading T2 as my budget priorities change - There is SampleTank 2.5 Kontakt 2, Garritan Stradivarius and Jazz band. It really cannot belive that it so difficult to relase the upgrade price given the (I hope) imminent relase.

Another thing I noticed in the ad is that when it mentions the bundled plug-ins, it says, and I quote: "full suite of Mackie Mixing and Mastering plug-ins." I don't know if this means more of the Acuma stuff, or whatever.

Plus, Final Mix looks different in the picture, with different colors.

And on the bottom of one of the pages it says that with every purchase of T2, you get a free artist website and 6 months of hosting from www.broadjam.com when you register T2. Seems like a nice addition.

The add also mentions a few other little things, but nothing significant. It does say that the new metering can be made full screen, which is kind of cool.

Oh, and the screenshots show the actual piano roll with tools. This has been kind of secretive till now.

I don't understand Headquest

Why can't you tell your boss something like "well Mackie says T2 will be out in March, meanwhile we can get T1 for the students and then upgrade"

How can you boss not think the product exists? Have you shown him the website? Maybe you can pick up the EQ magazine or the Computer Music magazine and show him.

You keep acting like Mackie screwed you over or something. Last time I checked it is still March so we can't accuse Mackie of lying to us.

You know, Mackie didn't promise us a rosegarden.
Nothing is owed to us. T2 could have very well not ever been created.

For everyone complaining about not knowing what the upgrade price is therefore you are saddened, let's examine the facts.

Fact 1: T2 brand new retail price $200
Fact 2: Registered owners of T1 will get an upgrade discount. Let's assume at least a 20 dollar discount.
That's 200-80-20=$100 There is your price.

It might even be better than that. Why are people complaining so hard? I don't get it.

I think Mackie (and Jules) focus on the general picture and are not too fussed about details. ie better to have a great product even if they forget to tell the user base until after the general public.

I agree. While it is unfortunate that the end of the financial year is here, it's no excuse to not buy it. Besides, if they buy now and then upgrade in the new financial year, it would be spreading out the cost for them!

Anyway, I too am a little tired of people thinking that Mackie has screwed us. They've not broken any promises that I know of. And I'm glad they're not taking the approach of some apps, releasing it to please people then being full of bugs. I'd put money on the fact that T2 will be extremely stable with very few major bugs to work out. I think Mackie is doing it right. No reason to complain, really.

My host is better than your host

I have to agree with koolkeys, but since there are pictures out there now it wouldn't hurt to let us see them at least

1. We already bought multiple copies of T1.

2. DUring the early part of the financial year we project teacher staffing costs, etc.

3. I don't think Mackie have "screwed us" at all. But I wish they had released proper info in time. Which, from my bosses point of view means, when can I buy it and how much. And - crucially - can this be done before the end of term?

i would like to point out that i don't think mackie have screwed me at all. i don't feel cheated or anything. headquest isn't saying that either. we're just unhappy because it's uncertain at the moment; it's perfectly valid that hq is having problems persuading the school admin to buy up T2. and i am not sure that i'll be able to afford it when it comes out. i'm sure i'll get it eventually, it's not like i'm going to buy another host.

like i said, i don't feel they're doing anything to harm me, i don't feel screwed. it's just upsetting that i can't properly plan and budget for it at the moment, so i may have to wait longer than otherwise to get it.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Fair enough

My question to you than is, If you can't really afford the 100 dollars or less right now, wouldn't you rather have it released later(April perhaps) if it means that T2 will be more stable? That way T2 is less buggy and you have the money to budget for it.

That's the situation I'm in right now. I don't have the money till April, so I'd rather have them release it later if it means more stablitiy.

Post

i'm not really bothered when it comes out. if it comes out in april yeah it'll be delayed but that's just the way it is, isn't it. i've waited this long. but they're still saying "march is a long month, you know ;) " and things like that, and if it's coming out as soon as they say it will be, i'd like to be able to budget for it. i just know that if it comes out and i can't afford to get it straight away then i'll feel pretty sad about it. i don't make any pretense that this doesn't make me really pathetic! that's the only thing that worries me, but i can also see why other people in different situations have similar issues (such as headquest).

we're not bitching about mackie :)

I didn't mean to get on anyone's case. I really do understand where you're coming from. Maybe if it means that they will get more sales, Beno could send an Email to your boss confirming that the time is soon. It's a long shot, but if it makes the difference, they hey.

Back on topic, does anyone else have this magazine? I don't know if I'll be able to get a pic up or not.

The point here - which I didn't explain too well - is that at the end of the financial year, any money we haven't spent gets clawed back by the local council... AND that amount deducted from next year's budget :-o

So the first 3 quarters of the financial year we tread carefully, and then in this quarter we have a bonanza with whatever is left.

One year I actually got a Yamaha Grand Piano!!

This year I got some new top-end keybaords and Reason 3.0.

If there had been an official March release date and price for T2 I could have snuck that in as well.

As it is I may have to wait until this time in 2006 :(

That's the reality of working in the public sector, UK 2005. And experienced educational suppliers of course are wise to this.

Post

Try emailing Mackie and Beno, maybe they can work out a preorder for you  , probably not, but it would be interesting what kind of reponse you would get. Maybe they overlooked that aspect of the release and would help them to know whats going on with educators.
