even if i one day 'go pro' i'm sure that i'll want to live within T for my workings. it's just much nicer for me than any other hosts.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Samplitude just looks painful.

I don't care how talented he is, if he's just starting out now Tracktion will be accepted as "professional" long before he is..

The thing for me with T is that I get alot more done in Tracktion than I ever did in Cubase. That alone makes it ideal for a new user. Unless he really wants to spend several months of steady work to be proficient in the app (Cubase is like that, and I have some experience there).platinumears wrote:I don't care how talented he is, if he's just starting out now Tracktion will be accepted as "professional" long before he is..

I agree, Samp will be a lot of upramp time, but I'm betting your friend doesn't care about (or hear) that. What he hears is, (spoken from the unconscious abyss....) "get the pro stuff....get the pro stuff....to be a pro, you must use the pro stuff." Why else would they have decided to name it "pro" tools!

To be taken as a pro, he's got to make songs. First of all, he's not even a musician...? Whose songs does he hope to record? With what equipment? I don't get it. He wants to be the next Phil Spector, but without a band to be the 'behind the scenes' person for?
Tell him to forget S8, forget T2, and buy a guitar. Or take some vocal lessons.
Do you have to be a musician to be a producer? I don't know. Ask Daniel Lanois... or Bob Rock... or any other producer.
Just because one or two non-musician producers in history had the kind of vision necessary to produce works of importance doesn't mean he's going to be one of them, and his time will be better spent becoming a musician so that he can at least produce himself while he's learning the ropes. Then if he wants to produce someone else, he'll be able to tell a headstock from a kick drum.

He's run the soundboard for a few bands years ago, he has a hardware background. He knows something about engineering, he wants to open his own studio I believe. Just knows squat about software, thus he's a noob. Not that he has no experience in music, he has a good ear, from what I can tell anyway.
I'll let him spend the $$. Whatever.

To be more specific, to be a pro someone has to want to pay him to do his stuff. Our clients don't give a flying f*ck what software we use (most of the time they never even see us anyway) thay just want the results.Lunch Money wrote:To be taken as a pro, he's got to make songs.
I've used Tracktion for "pro" jobs twice today.

Exactly.
I'm not saying you have to be a proficient 'instrumentalist' or be able to play a bunch of instruments in order to be a producer.
But it sure doesn't hurt, on many many different levels.

Yeah...let him do what he wants! lol! He'll learn. But again, he doesn't have to spend $800 to get Samp.

I just can't understand why 149 tracktion could possibly be compared to 800 samplitub.valley wrote:If he is going to spend $800 on S8, he could get T2 and a Mackie MCU for not a great deal more.
tracktion to podium............ok
sonar and cubase.......hate em but.......ok
why not nuendo and muzys.........which should I get? It just doesn't make any sense.
here is the deal. If it's more than one hundred us dollars (ok, 149 for t2 assuming it kicks as much butt as it should) then you probably got ripped off.
Wusikstation, energy xt, poduim, T1, and a bunch of others (not to mention freeware that works just fine) all are cheap, and guess what.......THEY WORK! Unlike all the bloat (oh...........excuse me.......!) ware that is so popular but doesn't work.
I'd print this thread and give it to your bud.......it's just ridiculous to spend on crapware these days.
