4 Page review of Tracktion 2 appears in Future Music 160. If I'm not mistaken thats the very first one! 8)

Price £149. Mackie have told someone about the price or maybe the price is a guess based on cost of T1? :?

Screen shots look identical to the old version with a screen shot of the send and new piano roll but really nothing new at all to see. :(

As for the review... there is a good history of Tracktion followed by a look into the new features of T2 but even though it was four pages long it didn't really go into detail about the new midi functionality and maybe was more of a Tracktion 1 + 2 review, As (correct me if I am wrong)future music did not actually review T1.

I really wanted to know what the boxed version will have in it for certain. I know Mackie have made mention of it on their website though.

The main focus was T2.I guess most FM Subscribers may not have really looked at Tracktion until now.

Good to see the review though and it was certainly a very favourable review for Tracktion 2.The reveiwer's biggest problem was trying to get Tracktion to crash! :)

"A few minor quirks are a tiny dent in Tracktion 2's armour"

Linplug brief screen shot using RMIV in Tracktion.

Odd really but you seem to be able to order T2 already or maybe pre order?

Great! Is there something else worth reading in the mag, I might pick it up on the way home?

Yes actually...

a.Reason3 review 3 pages. 1 less than Tracktion2! :D

b.2 page review of Abletons new synth Operator for Live users out there, nice. 8)

c.3 page review of Garage band 2.

Just checked the back of the FMCD I thought for a minute there was a Tracktion 2 demo but it has Garage band 2 and others listed instead. Close. 8)

I think there are about 636 kits as well all royalty free.

Oh yes and a review of the KorgKontrol 49.

Apart from some other bits and bobs for me, that was about it...

Post

Thanks, maybe the kits justify the expense :)

Of course, we are all mice and mackie is the "kitty" playing with us as long as they want until they go in for THE KILL!

Man, if there are downloads of this update.....the server is going to be WHOMPED when it is released! :-o

i know all these ads and order pages and reviews are pushing the hype folks but ...

So what scores did they give T2 and R3?

And how come you have this magazine early - release date for the mag is meant to be 16/03/05?

Hi Headquest,

I am a Future Music Magazine Subscriber, and my copy of the mag came in the post this morning. You are right about the date of release though the 16th of March it is.

I usually get CM and FM magazines a day or so early as a subscriber, not sure but I think it is fairly standard practice but 4 - 5 days is a bit early...but I am not complaining :hihi:

Scores...

FM unlike CM Magazine use a multiple scoring system with no overall total as you may already know so here goes...

Tracktion2
Stability - 10
Value for money - 9
Ease of use - 10
Versatility - 9
Quality of results 7
(not sure why especially with the 64bit summing option now in T2) Even the quality of Tracktion V.1 is fine.

Reason

Stability - 10
Value for money - 9
Ease of use - 9
Versatility - 8
Quality of results 9
Again surely 64bit summing is better than 32bit so why give Reason a higher score? :?

No big deal its subjective anyway but 64bit although possibly minimal should be better.

Tracktion 2's review was still very favourable the review started of by asking these questions...

What percentage of features contained in your favourite sequencer do you use on a day to day basis? As much as 90%? A generous 60%? Or as little as 20%?

His point being that even though he has used Cubase for 10 years professionally to make a living he still finds features in Cubase he did not know existed and clearly has not really used them if at all.

Tracktion was described as combining the best and most useful features of the more expensive sequencers with a simplified easy to use approach.

That sums up Tracktion very well. I would add...at a fraction of the cost of other high end options. They are great and have their use no doubt but Tracktion is a great alternative, always has been.

Thanks christianmusicmaker... and good to see you popping in here!

I keep meaning to subscribe to CM but never get around to it. I know I could save money... I also read Sound on Sound, but only occasionally look at FM or MTM.

I bought FM a couple of months ago and was pleased to see them give a "Platinum Award" to Adobe Audition - well deserved in my view 8) .

It made me laugh that they have "Charts" for sequencers!

But based on your scores Tracktion 2 gets 45/50 overall and so goes straight in at number 2, ahead of Logic (43), Cubase (42), and Sonar (42).

An awesome result - well done Jules/Mackie :)

A good result for Reason 3.0 too (again, very well deserved) - well ahead of the scores they gave to FL Studio 5

NEVER trust future music as far as features and opinions go,

It's a teenybopper music mag with emphasis on the breasts
of the girl holding the unit/or box.

I only value Sound on Sound for reviews.

So we'll have to see for ourselves what T2
is really worth.

maybe so, but a lot of future SoS readers and Tracktion users will get their start with FM, so it is good that T2 has been given a favourable review.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

There's a shapely female figure on page 89 of this months Sound on Sound, and a cute blond girl with pig tails sucking on a pink lollipop on page 117

...but yes, SOS is the only one of the mags I really trust. CM is very useful I think, and covers stuff not found in the others, especially smaller developers, so I always read it.

And FM is useful for beginners but otherwise just a bit of harmless fun, surely?

PS. Ableton Live 4 is at number 1 with 47, in case anyone was wondering.

And Samplitude is at number 5 even though it scores 45, because somebody at FM can't add up properly

Interesting...I never made a comparison with the other reviews, well spotted.I wonder if this will be reflected in their charts next month 8)! I somehow doubt it, but it would be very interesting to see Tracktion above Logic Sonar and Cubase! :D I guess next months edition will be a very interesting read. :hihi:

As for CM the new DVD content is pretty good, huge give aways every month. The content of course may not be to everyones liking.

Sound on sound certainly seem to go into more detail than most magazines for reviews and they seem to know there stuff, Tracktion had a good review way back, T2 should get an even better response. FM is OK in my opinion but each to his own.
