The object-oriented approach you mentioned sounds sweet.
actually it's not much different from Tracktion (I bet Jules ripped it there)

although: one great thing is that you can freeze single objects within a blink of a eye - imagine how powerful that is! :-D

Here is a little twist and where Samplitude becomes interesting. You can treat anything on a track as an object. (Midi or Audio, like Tracktion, Samplitude does not differentiate between audio and midi tracks) ... if you have different objects on the same track you can assign each object different routing, automation, effects and so on... Isn't that great!!! ... All you have to do is slice the audio or midi into chunks and then you have objects that you can operate on. ... Grab an object whether audio or midi and select create loop object then grab the corner and off you go!! ... All the notes with velocity info shown at the bottom. Take the mouse and drag it over the velocities to equalize them all or do an up and down pattern with the mouse to vary the velocities!! ..
I see very little there that I can't do in Tracktion to be honest.

You do realise rack filters can be dropped onto clips don't you? 8)

Sampletude 8 really is the bollox, in till you get a multi instrument vsti, or try to play live midi to a vsti while other tracks are playing witch you acutely wish to here, if he will be mostly dealing with audio let him go buy it if he claims to know how it works all ready good luck to him then use your copy of T2 in front of him & then he will want T too (cheap pun I know) & then he can have both

Now for me the thing I like about T is you don’t really need any thing else apart from a audio editor IMO;

Oh & tell your friend who thinks Tracktion is a not a pro audio production host, that subject from Ski Rize Studios said “go play with the demo first you fool”

All the best

EDIT: made this quick reply at the bottom of the first page then found the next 3 pages after posting it

He just bought Sonar 4. Better than Samplitude IMO anyway, but still a bit of a pain in the ass. Wanted to save him some grief by steering him to T2. Oh well. What can you do?

I wish him luck with it, especially since it cannot be resold.

Just keep telling him his host sucks. Its for jis own good.. :hihi:

Sonar is cool, just a bit of a pain in the ass here and there. But I respect that more than a Samplitude purchase personally. At least he has his mixer now. I'll be his tech support most likely. :(

I have a Peavey StudioMix that is designed to work with Cakewalk products, so I'll be able to easily hook it up to get him oriented with control surfaces. That'll be kin of cool I guess.

You can't transfer a Sonar license? That sucks.

You can't transfer ANY Cakewalk product, period. And yes, it does.

Even if it's the greatest product ever, there comes a time when you may want to let go of it and move on. Expensive software is just like cars, I consider resale value when I buy. I can't believe Cakewalk doesn't take this into consideration.

I say if you want samplitude, make sure and find a way to purchase it up to 7.23a ... Version 8 is reinventing the wheels of competitive product licensing. i.e. buy sonar 4, save yourself $300-600. Version 6 and 7... the chiznat, for what they do: audio multitrack recording (please note the absence of words like "midi" and "loop recording")... FOR THAT: hey, lets use sonar, or something else we're gonna' have to use anyway... OR hey, i'll go crazy here, I'll use Tracktion 2, and smile at the $800 i saved myself... if they'd only release the damn thing (????)

It runs deeper than that. Imagine, if you will, that like me, you run a small business. Suddenly you need a loan to finish a project you're working on; so you run to the bank armed with all the receipt for all the company belonging so they'd lend you the money against the value of what the company owns. The glitch is that the $3000.00 in software of all kind that you bought is worth...zero, because it cannot be resold.
I recommend reading the EULA before buying into any software, if it's not readily available, ask for it (of course I'm not talking about $25.00 VST's here).

First of all, you won't be saving $800, Tracktion 2 is not free! I knew the foolishness of wading into the Tracktion forum before I did it. Tracktion is a good program as I stated in my first post. It does however have limitations. Yes, you can get most things done in Tracktion but sometimes it takes a while to get those things done. Like I said, maybe I'm a rocket scientist, but I prefer working in Samplitude and find many things to be easier. Yes, there's more stuff on the screen but that's never bothered me. good luck with T2 guys, as I said I plan on buying a copy to show noobies how to sequence. Unfortunately, the new price won't be as attractive as before. It was easy to tell someone they could get a proffessional level tool for less than a $100.00. Now I will have to do a bit more convincing.
