It HAS pitch and time stretch? ;) I didn't notice.

I actually demoed both back to back, so without even purchasing I can tell you that the Acoustica noise reduction is well competitive with the Audition one. To be honest, I can't tell a difference between the two, but I'm also not a pro.

Off to look at Acoustica's features again....

I just tried the pitch shift / time stretch for the first time. (Shows how often I need that kind of thing!) Actually, they both bear comparison with the SoundForge versions! I do use those at work: pitch shift is sometimes useful when a source file is not at concert pitch, and I sometimes use a bit of time-stretch to squeeze a good loop into a true-tone file size limit, so I have a good idea how well SF does it: you get a few more options to tweak the algorithms, but the results seem to be as good*. 8)

* Can't do an A/B test though.. maybe I'll try a test file at work next week.

Ya know, the only thing I don't like about Acoustica is that every time you use Tracktion to launch it, it opens a whole new window instead of just another 'project' within the originally opened window.

Closest I've come is Audition with an educational discount... that was $200 CDN I believe.
I'm probably going to get Acoustica, for the noise reduction. But last I checked, it didn't have decent pitch and time stretch. <shrug>

well ... if you can save up or stretch to it then the best available time and pitch engine below audition et al is IMHO beatcreator which runs about $120 CDN (dont know if they have an educational discount system on top of that though) ...

... i have both audition and beatcreator and TBH i only use audition now for 'mastering' and any destructive audio processing that needs VST effects ... for most other audio editing operations (including timestretch and (obviously) offline beatslicing i use beatcreator ...

Well, since both my Acoustica and Audition demos have expired, I took the plunge and bought Acoustica. I will likely only use it for noise reduction and click/pop stuff, but you never know. ;) It can host DX, unlike Tracktion, should I ever need DX plugs.

For beats, I'm using a Computer Music freebie-- Cakewalk Plasma Express 2003. It only exports 16/44.1 , but that's fine with me.

I'd like to cut out at least one of the 'extra' programs that I'm using, if I can't get it down to just the one; but in the meantime, I'm sure it'll work out OK. :D

go here ...

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/vb-audio/us/pro ... dxrack.htm

... and grab the FREE ffx-4 from the bottom of the page - its a vst plugin that can host a rack of up to 4 DX plugins ...

... rock solid stable (unless the plugin itself is flaky) ...

... voila !!! DX plugins in tracktion !!!

What's wrong with it? I was thinking about purchasing it.

Nothing wrong with it. The features are almost identical to Acoustica's. I just didn't care for the interface. ;)

Yeah the interface sucks. :(
