Tracktion - another project screwed up

This is the second time, that i cannot continue to work on a bigger project.
Saving a project takes 30 seconds. After each record, the autosave is called, which means, that I have to
wait 30 secs after each recording.
Another problem is, that if I try to move a huge set of midi notes, Tracktion hangs at least for about 20 seconds.
Does anybody have an idea ?
Other larger projects work fine.
Does it have to do with the number of midi clips ?
Please help,
Tom

Sounds to me like something is wrong (esp if you say that other "large" projects are ok). I've never had huge numbers of MIDI clips, as I tend to join them together, but I have hit the maximum no of audio clips allowed on a single track (a lot!) and I didn't have the issues you are describing.. could there be a plug in there which is causing the extra long save time (maybe something like DS404 that saves its samples along with the patch file)? Or perhaps the file is corrupted in some way: try exporting the edit, and re-importing it into a fresh project..?

Exporting did not help. I removed all plugs, does not help either.
I found at least the reason. There was a midi drum track with 5 parts, each one ~1 minute.
When I remove the track, everything is fine, when I merged the track clips, which took 2 minutes
,
saving takes about 3 secs, which is not ok, but usable.
So there seems to be a problem with midi clips.
Are there any limitations or known issues regarding midi clips ?

Just as a test, I imported Beethoven (sp? that looks wrong...) piano sonata no. 26, which is a 26-minute long MIDI file, and copied it 8 times.
Slowed stuff up considerably. When switching between tabs and so forth; however, did not dramatically affect save time.
I wonder what's going on.... Just a total guess, but could it be that it's trying to save a plug-in's state when the plug-in isn't communicating properly with Tracktion?
Ie. what plug-ins are you using?

another thought (totally unfounded) ... is there a lot of extraneous data in your MIDI ???
(does selecting all MIDI clips and deleting all controllers and sysex from the clips speed things up ??? )

A long time ago (in a forum far far away) someone had an issue with midi data and long save times, and it turned out to be because he was using a wind controller, and there was a LOT of midi data in the clips as it tried to mimic his breathing patterns in midi. I seem to remember the problem was the amount of CC data in the midi information, rather than the number of notes.
Check what's going on in the midi, besides the actual notes themselves

I do believe that there is some kind of a bug here. Loading up some long midi piano concertos (without assigning any VSTi for playback) does take an inordinate amount of time to load.

Every time Tracktion saves an edit containing midi-data the midi-data is translated from the internal format to XML. This is a rather time consuming process I guess...
I try to avvoid splitting midi-clips, because everytime you do so Tracktion saves the whole midi-clip one extra time as XML.
XML is cool though...it makes easier to make third party apps that can read and write to edits!
