Hey guys,

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am a novice when it come to computer software.

I have just downloaded the free Drumatic software and have installed it into traktion (3rd party plug-in file) with no dramas. what i need to know is how do i get beats out of it? I am assuming it would need some sort of trigger but have no idea where to start. Can i use my keyboard for such a thing?

I am using an edirol UA-25 which has midi if that helps.

Also, i have downloaded simulanalog's guitar effects which work great, however, the the effects have to be applied after the guitar track has been layed down?

Thanks for your patience guys. Much apprecited.

Regards,

Jarrod.

BTW I love traktion.

What you can do is add a midi clip to the track and play drumatic on the editor keyboard starting on B-1 up to C1, I don't know how to map the octaves on your physical controller though, btw drumatic has a cool interface I just loaded it last week myslef for the 1st time

Drag your MIDI input icon to the Drumatic track, and enable "e-to-e" for the input AND by the transport (if they're not on already) You should now be able to play the drum sounds from your keyboard.. I don't know what sounds are mapped to which notes, but the kick drum will probably be a C, with the rest of the sounds arranged in the octave above it. If your keyboard is too small and can't be transposed, insert a pitch shifter filter BEFORE Drumatic (so it affects the MIDI not the audio) and transpose your MIDI that way. You should now be able to record what you play, or program in beats by drawing notes in the piano roll.

Effects can't be recorded along with audio, but you can hear the effect while you record: just make sure "e-to-e" is enabled for the audio input, and set up the effects on the track you are recording to; you will need to make sure other monitoring options are disabled (eg: mute that channel in your soundcard mixer) so you don't hear a phasey double signal, and the latency will probably need to be set the lowest you can get away with or it will feel very odd to play.. :)

Thanks for the advice Max and Platinum.....much appreciated.

I should clarify though, by keyboard i ment the PC keyboard, not the piano variety! Sorry mate, probably confused you there for a bit.

Thanks again for the help guys, would have had no idea otherwise.

Cheers,

Jarrod

As for playing with your computer keyboard, drag the midi in icon to the track with Drumatic on it and you should get a graphical keyboard on screen at the bottom of the tracktion window. Try clicking on various keys with your mouse (usually around middle c, or perhaps an octave or two down) and check you get sounds out of Drumatic. Assuming so, all's well soundwise, and we can worry about getting your computer keyboard to trigger the sounds.

You can use valley's Mkey plugin to do it, have a read of this

If anything's not clear, post back and we'll try to help. And don't worry about getting started, we've all been there :)
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"
