Strange behaviours when rendering

Hello forum!
I do not post very frequently here, mostly just read and (sometimes) learn... but this time I've run into something which baffles me. Here goes:
If I pitch a sound upwards, one octave +, and then render, either the track or the whole edit, the result gets totally distorted and useless. Is this a known bug? Is it even a bug, or am I doing anything wrong? I haven't been able to find any posts concerning this... Doesn't matter if it's a clip in a track or if it's a transposed sound played on the internal sampler.
My gear:
G4 Powerbook
M-Audio FW-410
Tracktion v. 1.6.0.1
Another weird rendering phenomenon: if I choose to render a track, the new file always gets a resolution of 16 bits, even if the original track contains 24 bit clips. Yea, there might be some audio properties setting somewhere in my system, but I've looked and I've looked. Any help is appreciated!
I eagerly await T2. Past mid-March now...

I have come across the pitched audio / render problem before: as a workaround, try pitching it up an octave first (which works ok I think) render or export, and then pitch the result again.
Rendering depeds on the soundcard: either get a 24-bit card, or use "export" instead..

hmm.. you're on a mac aren't you? I have a vague memory of mac-only rendering issues, but can't be specific.. any mac users out there?
You tried export: did it work?

mac, yes. doesn't matter if i render or export, pitched sounds become distorted either way.
