Rewire to reason

I am having troubles with the same... I have 8 tracks of midi sequence in tracktion. On each track i insert a rewire plug and select reason.
Now the properties for that plug include :
input channel for midi -> midi bus
there is an option to select bus 1 (which has bo further options) or bus 6 which has the reason instruments to further choose from. I fail to understand this implimentation
also with one reason session, I get the option of choosing Bus 1 (nothing) or bus 6 (with reason instruments) and ALSO a bus 7 , which has only one reason instrument, in this case a redrum machine. This redrum machine is not available with Bus 6...
The other issue is that of the return signal from Reason.
What is happening is that each plug also has an output channels to use option. Now since i have all reason instruments connected to the reason LR bus, this is what i want to monitor. However, in tracktion, i have each channel recieving the LR bus and thus taking the level of the Reason sum signal to distortion.
What is the correct way of implimenting rewire with reason in Tracktion ?
Thanks for sorting this out for me...

Two pointers which I hope will help (and I'm much more of a Reason man than FL, for the record!):
1) Reason as a ReWire slave always defaults to MIDI channel 6. I'm not sure why but this is the same in other hosts too. So select MIDI out bus 6 on all the tracks. Then from the drop down list underneath, select the specific Reason instrument you want to send info to.
2) If you want to bring audio back from each instrument you need to scrap Reason's mixer and wire each Reason module directly into the Hardware Interface in Reason. This has 64 outputs. In Tracktion you select which output you want coming into each ReWire track. In effect this means that from within Tracktion you can run up to 32 stereo or 64 mono Reason devices, each with its own sequencing lane in Tracktion. And then you can add/automate VST effects and do all your mixing in Tracktion.
A very powerful combination!

Do any of the beta testers use Reason? Tell you what, if Mackie buys me a Reason 3 licence, I'll test it thoroughly with T2..?pHz wrote:i dont have reason ... but i think i ought to look into this rewire business at some point ...

Reason is certainly a great one-stop solution for samplers/synths to use within Tracktion. Combined with the plug bundle in T2, I think you would have all your bases pretty well covered.pHz wrote:i dont have reason ... but i think i ought to look into this rewire business at some point ...

Tracktion 1.6 does have a bug with Reason/ReWire which is quite annoying. Making sure this is fixed in T2 is certainly a priority for those of us working with this configuration.platinumears wrote: [Do any of the beta testers use Reason? If you want me to check it out of course... only too happy

Actually i think we do have a Reason using beta tester, and IIRC he said that bug was squashed..?

You're really not getting this "NDA" business, are you?platinumears wrote:Actually i think we do have a Reason using beta tester, and IIRC he said that bug was squashed..?

I did not notice this with my past experience with reason. Whch was only with SX/Nuendoheadquest wrote: 1) Reason as a ReWire slave always defaults to MIDI channel 6. I agree that this is a very powerful combo... which i use while im mixing (i dont make music, only engineer)headquest wrote: 2) If you want to bring audio back from each instrument you need to scrap Reason's mixer and wire each Reason module directly into the Hardware Interface in Reason. but most often I start by first designing sound (i get in reson sessions to be mixed, and audio added to it once in a while). While changing/assigning sounds i like to avoid routing, get a rough mix ready, and then do the routing where needed. I find you routing from start a bit excessive and time consuming.
and having the LR return from reason coming to all chnnels of T1 is not going to work.
Still, why was I getting one instrument in an entire reason session at channel 7 ?
thanks...

NDA, Shmen-DA...I just want to know if this bug is fixed because I quit using Tracktion completely because of it. I work in Reason almost exclusively, but I'd like to take advantage of Tracktion for some VST work, but not with that annoying bug.chico.co.uk wrote:You're really not getting this "NDA" business, are you?platinumears wrote:Actually i think we do have a Reason using beta tester, and IIRC he said that bug was squashed..?
So is it officially squashed or not?

If this bug - and the MIDI note dropping one - hell, and the rendering one - aren't fixed, then I would definitely think twice before upgrading, because they have been reported SSOOO many times.
If they're not fixed it would cast some doubt on whether they ever could be at this stage.
Also, I seem to remember previous occasions when release notes claimed one or more of these bugs was fixed, but it subsequenntly turned out that they weren't fixed after all.... no doubt because of lack of adequate beta testing on those occasions. Let's hope this time is different!

*Some* people on KVR slag off ReWire as a protocol, and act as though it were the enemy of open standard plug-ins, which frankly is utter nonsense.
Yes, ReWire opens up an enormous range of new opportunities, and Tracktion has pretty good ReWire implementation over all (apart from the aforementioned bug, grrr...)
Plus, it is now the most widely adopted protocol out there.
But you're not a twat. There's all sorts of things my software setup is capable of that I've simply not gotten around to exploring. I think that with all the feature-laden programs available, this is just normal.
Enjoy your exploration of ReWire
