so my little line6 pod xt was doing so well as the usb input device into tracktion but then i realized (doh!) that when i was jamming with a friend we couldn't record our two guitars.

can anyone out there recommend a nice low cost input device that can record at least two instrurments at once? being able to put in a condensor mic would be nice too...sorry if this OT but this is going to be used in t1 after all.

thanks in advance!

If you have a stereo input you could try to pan 1 guitar hard left and the other hard right (don't know the line6 pod xt, my small mixer lets me do that), and then split them into two tracks in Tracktion.

I have used the following equipment to record my self playing guitar and a friend playing bass simultaneously while the computer was playing pre-arranged drums

guitar goes to M-audio audiobuddy (preamp) instrument input #1 and bass to input #2. Preamp's out #1 goes to left input of audiophile 2496 and out #2 to right and then into two different channels in Traction (check the "treat as two separate mono inputs" or something like that). I had e-to-e enabled to monitor through Tracktion (some ampsim on guitar channel and a compressor on bass channel).

If you have low latency (~5ms is low enough for me) there is no problem in monitoring with effects (crucial for the guitar sound if an ampsim is involved).

The audiobuddy preamp is very cheap (~80$), has two independent channels, phantom power for condensors, xlr+ instrument inputs. I am very satisfied with the results (I am using it for both instruments and mics).

Of course you could use some mono line out from your POD (connected to one of the line ins of your audiocard) to record the wet signal and use the preamp and an ampsimp within Tracktion for the other guitar.

Hope it helps

I think you would do well with a multi-input soundcard (M-Audio Delta 410 could be a good & cheap option) and a small mixer that has direct outs from the mono channels. Or a multi-bus mixer, but they usually cost more and maybe you don't need stereo outs. Yamaha's MG line of mixers have bot versions.
