Output routing of racks...

I cant seem to understand how this is working.. I would presume that the outputs in a rack are routed to the LR summing bus.. this however is not the case...

The outputs of a rack are routed back into whereever there is a rack plugin inserted...

For example, I have made a rack with a reverb and intend on using it as an aux channel... I insert the rack plugin on 3 tracks and adjust the dry and wet ammunt (where I presume that the wet ammount is analogus to a send). However, the return from the rack is coming to all three tracks that have the rack plugin installed... so my reverb is amplified three ties over...

how do i work ???

help me quick please...

thanks

I figure ill have to make many output channels in the rack and then ssign the assign the appropriate channel.... no that wont work.....

just choose one rack to return the wet, and don't set the outputs of any of the other racks
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

I dont hink i understand... are you refering to the rack itself or the rack filters ??? if its the rack filters.. then making a new track and using it for the rack return seems good...
ill chek it out.. else there is senderella...

thanks

ok.. so now the ammount of send is controlled by the input slider ? since the wet mix level seems to have no bearing...

all this should be much more straightforward in T2 with its 'proper' send / return filters (basically just hardwired racks AFAIK) ...

yes.. but i would still like to know how to use these racks you know... I might not be able to purchase T2 immediately.. Is my stated method ok ?? seems to work fine...

On a send track, set the dry level up full, the wet level completely off, and use the input level controls to set the send level for that track. On a return track, make sure the wet level is turned up: I tend to leave it fully up and use the Vol filter for the return track to set the actual return level.

Thats what i figured.. thanks...

now, could you tell me ow to use a mulit out VSTi, such as FL within Tracktion ? how do i assign outputs of a track to an output within the rack which hosts FL VSTi multi... and how do I get the routing of this VSti back to Tracktion ???

thanks again

It's not that complicated. Drop the VSTi into a rack and hook up the outputs (creating enough outputs in the rack filter). Drop the rack on the track that controls the VSTi, and on all Tracks where you want to output the secondary outputs. Now, if you click on one of the instances of that rack, in the status field, at the bottom of the page (where you set dry and wet levels etc) you will see two menus called "left output comes from" and "right output comes from". Simply choose wich of the outputs from the rack you want to hear on this track. If it's a mono output you can just choose the sam output for left and right output. That should be it really.

Correct, but its quicker to drop the vsti onto a track, then right-click -> "wrap this filter in a new rack" which will do all the cabling for you, and create the right number of rack outputs.

you know what all of this rack business is kind of freaking me out. Maybe it's only when i'm wanting to do sends... I never really tried to do sends after it got really loud by i guess exporting every rack i sent into every output.

Thats understood.. what i want to know is how to get a midi track to route to a VSTi channel... in SX for example (according to the tutorial) all channels in the step seq will show up in the programme list, once you select the midi output for a midi track to be the FL VSTi.
