Any other Win98SE T1 users - must upgrade before T2

I just got my EM in the main, and pulled out the big spread T2 ad. I noticed that WinXP is a requirement.
I'm happily running Win98SE with T1. I am going to be buying a new PC soon, so this won't affect me too much, but if there is anyone else running 98, I guess it's time for more memory and XP for you.

I wouldn't worry unduly about that. T2 is based on the T1 code, so it's unlikely it won't work, as it's just a progression, yes/no? I'd bet it's either a mistake, or mackie don't want to officially support older o/s since as time goes by it will become more and more of an arse to test it on 95/98/Me/2000 and XP machines. So they officially support it on XP. But i bet it still runs fine on 98
Wait till we see the demo before buying a new pc

win98 WOW.
I upgraded 4 years ago to w2k.
The best upgrade ever.
Regardless of T or any other program upgrading from win98 is a good thing.
win98 was the last "unstable" os from microsoft.
You will like the results.

That's what I've heard - though one nice thing about 98SE is that it's off the radar screen for the virus proliferators. And it's been incredibly stable for me, and I've gotten by with 256 MB of RAM quite nicely.AndrewSimon wrote:win98 WOW.![]()

I will be upgrading the PC - time for Dad to have his own for making music and let the kids have this one for their games.

Given that I've been outed as beta tester, and it is well known on this forum that I am a commited Win2K user, it probably wont hurt for me to say that Tracktion2 runs fine on Win2K.
I can't speak for 98, but what Chico says is probably correct. bk is entirely right about plugs though - all bets are off on that score.
BTW, Scott, Win2K will run fine on a 256MB machine, and even WinXP will be usable as long as you kill the eye candy. You can always use winXPLite (I forgot the link, but I'll find it later) to streamline a 2k/XP install still further.
As for viruses, 98 is at much at risk as 2k/xp. It is worms you need to worry about with the newer OSs, but a decent firewall (hardware for preference, but zone alarm at a push) will see you pretty much clear.

Actually there are some issues with T2 and win98. Most notable the unicode support won't work in Win98. We also have done zero testing under win 98 either so the win 2k / win XP code base is a requirement. Also as was previously said, some of the included plugs also have their own requirements which is why Win XP is listed as the required OS.

If that is the case then I am looking at a very expensive upgrade to T2. The only reason I am still on 98se is the fact that there are no other drivers for my card. I've priced the options and I'd spent no less than $600 for the same capabilities I have right now. Win98 has been rock solid for me. I had cash in my hand for T2 but not that much.Beno wrote:Actually there are some issues with T2 and win98.

Tim,
I'd suggest waiting and trying the demo to see how it works. It may end up being fine (albeit officially unsupported) if you just use standard ascii characters.

So no Latin sequencing for us obsolete OS users!
