I'll try and work out why the output only exists in some universes (though I'll be buggered if I can think how that could happen).
If I can get MKey to output MIDI in a form that doesn't require Thalamus then that'll makes things a little easier.
Then I'll look at adding a simple record buffer for those who don't want to mess around with virtual MIDI devices.

I use mKey on an occassional basis as well.. I like it much better Trollo or anything along those lines as far as I'm concerned... I can basicly use it as it is for what I do... (but improvements are always
)

I got it to work. Then T crashed. I'll try again.

A question for the people that use Thalamus:
Although I have a suspicion why sometimes MIDI is not received properly from MKey, I've tried it on both an XP and a Win2K box, and in both cases I could use MKey comfortably without Thalamus. I could also record through MIDI OX without the need of Thalamus too.
Can thos eof you who use Thalamus, test whether MKey works without it? I'm wondering if Jules fixed something in Tracktion at some point that stopped midi events from MKey being lost.
Steps (to record - MIDI OX is not needed otherwise):
[1] install MIDI OX
[2] Activate one MIDI OX input and output in Tracktion.
[3] Place MKey on a track.
[4] Set the output destination of the track that contains MKey to point to a MIDI OX input (select the track and edit the destination in the properties panel)
[5] Point the MIDI OX input device at another track.
[6] Activate teh caps-lock.
[7] Start recording
[8] press some keys.
TIA.

Care to elaborate on that? I'd love to use MKey without bothering with Thalamus.darcyb62 wrote:When I first set this up I found that it worked without Thalamus so I never went further with it. It all depended on having midiyoke set up correctly.

I got it to work (regularly), and I'm loving it! Had to use Thalamus (sp?), and it works great (I just needed to reboot things).
Cool Stuff!!!!

I was wrong on this... I went back and took a look at a couple of projects and Thalamus was right behind MKey. For some reason I thought I had it working without but I was wrong. Sorry about that...dealwithit wrote:Care to elaborate on that? does it work if you remove thalamus?
I'm trying to work out why some people (myself included) don't need thalamus, and some people need to.

you can do that anyway.
I think the default keymap passes most transport keys to Tracktion. You can edit the behaviour of the keymap to fit your needs using the keyeditor app that comes with MKey.
If you get stuck. tell me what you need, and I can make a suitable map for you.
