I'd vote for Coffee and Cigarettes but I don't like Coffee ....
and cigarettes aren't exactly software, are they?

First time I ever found Ron's sense of humor funny! Yay!

Cool Edit pro turned into Audition when Adobe bought syntrillium. I use Cool Edit 96 because I could download a working demo. I needed a good noise reduction and Cool saved the day. The only problem is that is doesn't handle anything higher than 16 bit.

Any of you Audition users use they key-bindings a lot? How comprehensive are the options? I'm getting some nasty RSI type pains, and I'm thinking of ditching Soundforge as it is not customisable at all in this respect..

How do you guys use Audition? I also use Tracktion and Audition, but I didn't know that this was common. However, I only use Audition after I export the audio track out of Tracktion for some final tweaking.
Do you still use Final Mix in Tracktion for real-time mastering, and then Audition after? Do you not use Final Mix at all? I am wondering what you guys do to master your tracks. I am such a novice at it that I use the Final Mix presets on the whole track, and then use Audition for Pan/Expand and EQ on the exported wav.
Thanks,
Pete

i use the audition / tracktion pairing ... but really only use audition before and after tracktion ...
... before to prepare audio files / loops / fx / etc ... and after to 'pre-master' the mixdown (i always export a clean mix from tracktion with nothing on the master outs except maybe a touch of reverb ...
... while im in tracktion i usually use beatcreator or EZ-editor to tweak clips since they load fast and have (relatively) stripped down and bloatless featuresets ...

I just installed the Audition tryout.. it has no RMS normalise option!?! Anyone confirm that, or did I just miss it? Bollocks, back to Soundforge..platinumears wrote:Any of you Audition users use they key-bindings a lot? How comprehensive are the options? use the edit > group waveform normalize command ... it IS based on RMS ... the normalize option under the effects menu is peak based as you surmise ...platinumears wrote:I just installed the Audition tryout.. it has no RMS normalise option!?! I'm still trying to figure out how to make music that will sound better at greater than 16 bit depth and 44.1kHz rate.Tim Brackett wrote:Cool Edit pro turned into Audition when Adobe bought syntrillium. I know I'm not there and people seem to like my tracks.

Oh, well that's easy. Just let off the compressors, limiters, and maximizers a bit, leaving some dynamics in your music, and you'll hear a difference going to 24 bit.rockstar_not wrote: I'm still trying to figure out how to make music that will sound better at greater than 16 bit depth and 44.1kHz rate.

(I haven't actually listened to your music, so I don't know if this is problem with your music in particular. It's more of a general comment.)
