Kristal seems not to be so complex.
First install or empty the contents of the zips which have the plugins you want into [drive name]:\Program Files\Kreatives.org\KRISTAL Audio Engine\Plugins folder. I used the three t-willy suggested earlier. I can't play guitar, so I downloaded this sample from Glooped.
I also used drum loops from my sample archive I have built up. They are in the .zip file which includes the project here. The drum loops are by a very talented musician, member herodotus. If you like th loops, be sure to give him a buzz.
to the good part
1) Open kristal
2)Immediately you will see two screens pop up;
The "Waver", the screen which represents your multitracked audio.

and the mixer, where you control FX for each track

3.)For me, all i had to do was import the sample. For your recording, it is a bit more complex.
click on the drop-down menu that is currently showing "Not Recording"

then click the right connection (I have no idea what this would be for you, probably something like "Line in 1" or "mic") Keep in mind a mic is mono and line in is stereo. To find out for sure whether the right connection is mono or stereo, head to the "Preferences " tab under "Engine".

A stereo connection should have two channels, one named "Left ___" and one named "Right ___" and a mono should have just one. To record in stereo, you have to click the yellow button on the channel you want to record in the next pic.

Then, when you have the track that you want to record on selecting the right input and the correct stereo/mono setting, make sure you have the metronome set on or off as you like it, number of beats before recording starts with precount set to your fancy, the BPM and time signature correct, you get to hit the BIG RED BUTTON

4) Now for those drums.
If you are lucky enough to have a friend who drums, you can go through the same process as before on a different "waver" (track). Me, I don't. So I use drum loops. To import a loop, click in the timeline

where you want the loop to start when it is imported, and then click on the folder icon

for the "waver" that you want the loop to be placed.
A browser will open and then you can browse your computer for the .wav file you are going to import.
After your screen should look something like this.

5) Now that you have some shiny recording and drums, its time to move and FX.

That pic should explain all the moving that you can do with audio.
The FX are added in the mixer. Hit F3 to bring up the mixer. We are going to add some FX to one of the tracks.

Pick which track you would like. Then find the section that is how many to the right from the left the number of the track you picked. If you want the second track, you want the track that is two to the right from the left. Click on the "No FX" bar in the FX1 or FX2 parts above the channel you picked to bring down a drop down menu. This menu should include the plugins you put in the /Plugins directory at the beginning of this tutorial.

For this tutorial, I am going to use the Luxonix LFX-1310. The assigning mechanism is the same for all VST plugs. Go ahead and click on the Luxonix LFX-1310.

This should popup when you click the edit button for the FX you have selected. Use the red arrowed buttons to change presets. Play whatever you have chosen to effect while changing presets. Fiddle with some of the knobs. Experiment. You will learn best this way.
Add generally to your song with some of the included loops, or include your own sounds by importing or recording them. Have FUN!
6) Once you are satisfied with a track, you can export it. Hold down Ctrl and left click on the timeline to put the starting point for audio export and then right click while holding it down to place and ending marker for your export. Then hit File->Export Mixdown... and pick 16,24,or 32 bits and Stereo or Mono and a filename and it will export a .wav very quickly. you can also export .ogg and some other formats.
2:52 AM I just wrote the whole manual over again! It's all under Help->Kristal Audio Engine Help!
btw, you can find the plugs t-willy recommended by clicking on "quick effect links" here at the website and looking for their names without the dev name.

If the concerns have already been addressed by someone else then that sucks. But I am putting it up anyway.
