T1/2 questions

Hi,
I've searched a bit, but I still have some questions about features and functionality.

So far I know that Tracktion is:
-An intigrated MIDI and Audio recorder/player
-T1 no MTC, T2 promised MTC
-T2 not out yet.

So here's what I don't know:
Can T1 (or 2, someday) "know" the instrument list of my JV1010 and NANO synth like Cakewalk does?

Can I edit MIDI events (duration, velocity, etc)?

How can I get the demo MIDI track to STOP lookin at the internal synth, and START lookin at my JV1010....just to test its compatibility (I can "see" my MIDI interface, but I can't 'engage' it)?

Does T1 or 2 import standard midi and export standard midi....so I can fly some existing stuff in?

I'm happy to read these answers if they're all at some URL, or even research further if given some search clues; anything would help.

THanks

Yes to all

T1 no, T2 is still very much an unknown quantity.

Yes.

Select the track, select your midi device as destination output for that track.

Yes, of course.

Hope it helped, and check the T1 page on Mackie site for some links to good site with info.

T1 doesn't export MIDI, it says it does'nt, but bar some freakn' crazy work arond. It doesn't sync clock or nuttin' Infact the MIDI is crap in T1. Stick with Cakewalk...you will be waitin' till 2005 for T2 and even then you dunno how good teh MIDI implementation will be.

What?!? Click export=midi file. How's that for a crazy workaround.

Definitive answer for you (as I smell some BS in this thread already): MIDI in T1 is a little basic in places, slightly unconventional at times, but perfectly useable once you get used to it. MIDI in T2 is much better..

MIDI import and export situation: there are some problems at the moment with complex GM files, especially if they use unusual time signatures. MIDI import is usually OK in my experience. MIDI export of short clips is also usually OK, although Tracktion is unusual in that it only exports MIDI which arrives at a MIDI output (ie: you need to re-route tracks that are playing VSTi's if you want those tracks to be included.) MIDI export of more complex files is also usually OK when importing into another sequencer (I also use Cubase VST) Where Tracktion currently has problems is with exporting GM files which are intended to be played in media players or mobile phones etc..

From your post I gather you just have some MIDI files which you wish to work on in T: Simply drag and drop from explorer, it will probably work fine..

Well, thanks for the responses. That lack of MTC thing is a bit disappointing, but if/when T2 comes out; sounds like problem solved.

I think I'll pass on T1, and if I don't Sonar-out before T2 I'll take another look then.

Thank you all very much.

MTC?

T1 no, T2 yes (can't say definitively as I've no way to test it)

MIDI TimeCode.

For syncing MIDI devices more accurately than by using MIDI clock.

Yeah, the lack of MTC is one reason I'm eagerly awaiting T2.
