Didn't mean offence by anything of what i said, and i certainly didn't aim it at anyone in particular. Just a few people i've met are desperately protective of "talents" and it shits me.
Oh yeah, i thought i posted this before but some great advice for getting a good bass sound: Make sure you are using a decent set of monitors.

yeah hoffy I actually agree with you!
and also yeah.. actually I think thats a major issue I have with the bass problems.. the monitor thing..
that said.. there was an israeli artist (ack cant remember their name) who did goa/psy really well.. with nothing but a soundblaster and some cheapos.. I think there is more technique than anything that im missing. I personally can make some deep basses.. but they still sound no where near what I hear on commercial productions..
as spongebob once said.. 'TECHNIQUEEEE, techniquetechniquetechnique!!!!'

Wow! I was not really expecting much in the way of replies, obviously I have touched on a fairly universal subject. I thought I was totally alone on the music planet. Thanks for all the input guys, I do pay attention to the voices of experience.

there is a very talented lad by the name of ben who writes under "oscillation has no output" (or OHNO) in melbourne, who gets most of his sounds (including some incredibly gnarly leads) by mangling snare samples in various ways, entirely in fruity loops

Here is a 9 page thread on the subject -- look towards the end for a wrap-up of the techniques. The main problem with psytrance basslines is keeping the notes separate enough from each other that they don't muddy up the mix. The general consensus (backed up by a couple psy artists) is that you need to use samples and keep the release lengths short, maybe even trim the end of the sample so they cut out rather than release.
And all life's fears

I can handle it

Here you can hear my demo of a psy-bassline + kick...
If this is kinda the bassline you had in mind, I can describe the 'making' to you

Yeah that is the direction I am going in, the rolling bass that still has good note seperation. I have been very close with good 'ole VB1, but your sample is much better.Orbitutle wrote:http://www.sitecenter.dk/reefer/nss-fol ... 20Demo.mp3
