During recording or playback in Traktion my monitors pop and I lose sound. Then the software can't seem to find the 410 anymore and I have to reboot my PC.

I've a feeling this may have something to do with the power from the USB? When I switch USB's there is no difference. Can anyone shed some light on this please?

I also have the latest drivers for the 410.

Reboot from your osx install disc and open the disc utility from the file menu. Repair permissions and run the disc repair as long as your there. Repairing permissions from the startup cd is much more effective than trying to have the internal drive examine itself using disc utility from the apps/utilities folder.

Permissions can cause all kinds of funny behavior.

Download Onyx, the free osx utility for your OS version. From the automated tab, click everything and run it. This also repairs permissions and is a good weekly maintenance routine.

Also try running the audio/midi utility from the applications/utilities folder and make sure the interface is selected there. Some drivers don't get this switched.

If you have the option of using a power adapter, do it. External power is always going to be cleaner than usb power. Most interfaces also see a boost in signal and lower noise floor when externally powered. If this isnt' an option, consider picking up an externally powered usb hub.

Hope this helps.

Never had such problems with the Traction and 410. I do, however, occasionally have trouble during startup of my PC where the blue light on the 410 continues to blink and no sound. I blame my PC cause it's used for all sorts of shit and not very stable anymore.
The following have sorted it out (not always, but often): Turn 410 off, unplug FW-cable, plug it in again, power on. It sure beats booting the machine.

I would also try to feed the 410 with external power to see if that helps.

What's USB got to do with it? It's an FW card...

You're right, it is firewire.

Same advice applies to firewire as usb, they both work better when the device isn't drawing power and delivering audio/midi I/O over the same bus.

Also try removing the logic/garageband drivers in library/audio/midi drivers and/or devices.

PC's doesn't like Garageband drivers, thats for sure

@burno70 if it's a firewirecard like the others have said and you have xp running with sp2, take a look at microsofts hotfixes. there is one that repairs a bug that occures to firewire after sp2.
