hi all! new to this site and to traktion.
i'm waiting for the mackie support forum to approve me for that board but i also read that this forum was great for traktion questions.
i just installed tracktion on my imac running osx 10.3.8. i also have the m-audio ozone (usb) hooked up to my computer.

the problem is that tracktion is not recognizing the ozone. so i can't play my sound that i have loaded in traktion via the ozone. when i went into settings > audio devices the wave devices pulldown bar is set to m-audio ozone. output 1+ 2 (enabled), input 1+2 (enabled). then down below on the midi devices there is no pulldown bar (should ther be one for the m-audio ozone?) but i set the port 1 input (enabled) and port 1 output (enabled).

now when i go to my project there is only a port 1 and input 1+2 devices on the left of the tracks. shouldn't there be an m-audio ozone input device? i went and adjusted a bunch of settings but i can't get any sounds. when i hit the keys on the ozone thoguh the audio levels move but still i get now sound. the ozone works fine with reason and i just cant figure out what's wrong when using it with traktion. any help would be much appreciated.
thanks,
kevin

I'm using the same setup but on PC and the Ozone is a little funny with Tracktion I find. First off have you got ASIO direct streaming on in settings?

hi magoo.
i do not know what asio is. i've read about it while trying to fix this issue but i don't see it in any of the settings.
thanks

I had the same problem wih the Ozone to start with.
The only difference is I use an ibook and stuck with OSX.3.5 which i've found to be a little less "quirky".Anyway..
Theres a button under the midi devices section that says
"Only show enabled devices"
Try unchecking that and sometimes the ozone midi ports appear.
If that dont work quit tracktion and switch the ozone off then back on to get your mac to see it again.
If still no Joy re-install the m-audio drivers.
I think there a bit flaky because i've had a couple of teething troubles with it.
Still it is a nice peice of kit and often just flicking it on and off is enough.
Also make sure your imac comes on first then switch the ozone on.
"plug and play?"
yeah right..

thanks for the tips mapper.

unfortunately no go. i unchecked the "only show enabled devices" with no luck. i also quit tracktion and switched the ozone off/on again. then i d/l the m-audio driver again.

i agree it's a nice kit but this problem really sucks.

thanks again for your help

below is a screenshot of my settings. just to be clear. shouldn't there be a pulldown menu (just like next to "wave device") allowing me to choose m-audio ozone for the "midi devices"?

Try using the audio/midi utility in applications/utilites.

I recently had a problem after a restart. My griffin imic wasn't recognized even after it was selected in the sound control panel. I pulled up the audio/midi panel and it still showed the built-in hardware selected. I reselected the imic driver and all is fine.

I posted elsewhere about getting the m-audio firewire audiophile. I've read mixed reports on driver problems and think at least some of them are in the os version. Apple's realse notes for 10.3.9, to be released any day now, include usb and firewire audio bug fixes.

Another possible troubleshooting technique is to remove any drivers for other hardware from library/audio/midi drivers and/or devices. OSX has built in drivers for logic than can conflict with other devices. Pull them out of the folder and restart.

You can always try repairing permissions too. Restart from the osx install disc and run the disc utility. If you don't have it, download the free osx utility Onyx at

Just to save you from pulling your hair out for ASIO references, ASIO is PC only. The Mac version uses CoreAudio as you know. PC users can choose between ASIO and DirectX - ASIO being the ideal choice for that platform. For your purposes you can ignore references to ASIO.

Hi Kevlar -

the "input 1 and 2" is Tracktion's input from the Ozone, so thats working ok.

When you select the track you want to play through the ozones outs you should see a list of outputs to select at the bottom of the screen - you will want to select "default output".

If you want to monitor the inputs you should be sure to select "end to end"

To judge from your screenshot Tracktion is seeing the Ozone fine...

Post

and "port 1" is the Ozone's MIDI out I expect.

when tracks have no output device chosen, a little yellow exclamation point appears just to their right. Select the tracvk and assign it to yr outputs (not another track or rewire or anything) and you should be ok...

Thanks James, Valley & Semiquaver!

I've tried all of your tips and still I am getting no sounds. I agree with Semiquaver that Traktion is seeing the ozone fine. I just don't get any sounds out when hitting the keys still. Just to clarify. I have not mixing board or monitors. Just my iMac, Ozone and the stock iMac external small round speakers.

I've selected all of the options in the output list. still i get no sound out.
i'm very confused

thanks again for your tips.

Hi Kevlar -

the problem is you have assigned the output of the track to the default MIDI outs - so the movement you see in the meters is MIDI being generated and sent to the ozone but... the ozone is not a sound module so you get no sound.

set the destination output to "outputs 1 + 2" or (hopefully) "defaut audio ouputs" NOT "default midi output"

secondly you have BOTH MIDI and audio inputs assigned to the track - that is not possible!

I'm assuming you want to play a VI - then assign ONLY the MIDI input , that is "port 1" to the track.

finally you need to insert a VI Filter into the track - go to the little "New Filter" arrow and drag it onto the right oof the track just before the level and pan filter let go and choose a VST instrument from the list (the ones with a little keyboard next to them that are labelled "synth" (hopefully you have some!)

make sense?

Hi Semiquaver!

Thanks so much for these instructions. I've followed them and understand what you said. However, when I inserted the mda dx10 (with a little keyboard next to it) I still get no sounds.

Thanks again
