I've never heard the term "Big and Black" when talking about harmonics

Quick update: I have finished the tapping and Marcus Miller-style slapping soundfonts. Here's a demo of the slap bass: http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelop ... ssdemo.mp3

Man, this is going to be so sweet!

I even have a sample of the bass being plugged in. Not sure if you can find samples of that anywhere else. Might be useful for simulating a "live" performance. :)

My guess is this will be free, although it's surely better than some commercial fonts. All his other fonts have been free. I don't mean to take advantage of him, but his generosity is appreciated. Geoff has truly made some great sounds. I hope the bass is just as good as the rest of them. Thanks again Geoff!

are these best run in a paticular app, or any soundfont player will do, ie: fl studio?

I was just listening to marcus miller's version of "Teen Town" when I swung by here and saw the demo of the sf. This thing sounds pretty convincing Mr. Geoffkahn. Can't hardly wait to try them out.
Ciao

Most soundfont players should do fine. If not FL, then SFZ is always a great choice.

The Marcus Miller soundfont of the bass isn't really meant to sound exactly like his bass -- if I wanted it to, I'd go buy a Marcus Miller signature bass. Really it's more like me imitating the style in which you play the bass. Most of his stuff is slap and pop -- pretty plain, no tricks, but groovy as all-get-out.

As contrast to the Victor Wooten soundfont, which employs double-thumbing, and other tricks like that which his style of playing is known for.

As an update, I have finished the "Bassics", "MM Slapping", and "Tapping" soundfonts. I'm still unsure whether I should sell it (downloadable) or have it for free. I've considered donations, but I'm not sure setting up that would be worth the effort. Anyways, if I end up selling it, I definitely will make usable "light versions" of all the soundfonts (rather than crippling them like other sound developers do). What do you think?
