The help file says this:
Tip: Many different tracks can send to one MIDI output device, so you can assign a different track to each MIDI channel for multi-timbral synthesizers.
...but it doesn't tell me how to assign a track to a channel.

So far I can only see channel assignments in each clip, nowher for the entire track....which makes me wonder:
when I do get a track channel assigned, will that override the clip channel assignment?

thanks

Beats me. Incorrect wording? Missed mentioning a step?

Highlight the MIDI clip and the MIDI channel selection feature appears at the bottom of the screen in column 2 under MIDI Clip--default is channel #1, usually default in instrument is either multi or #1 as well. (Very handy for multi-instrument capable samplers like Kontakt). I think you are really better off being able to make channel assignments by individual clip so you don't need have a separate track for each MIDI clip as in most sequencers. This feature allows to change instruments in samplers like you would change patches (program change) in synths.
If you want to assign the track to a single MIDI channel just assign all the MIDI clips in that track to the same channel.
