Can anyone 'hear' the difference using the 64 bit mixing option (it's on the setting page under Miscellaneous) - scott

I'm happy enough to admit that I can't.
I could measure it though.
with better monitors, and better ears than mine, and with a lot of tracks, and you'd probably hear the difference.

Is there a way to 'flip' this switch while the edit is playing? There doesn't appear to be - that would be the best way to test it - wouldn't it?
On first listen I can't hear a difference either. - s
As a side note, it seems this is a feature that not many KVR'ers are concerned about.

I'd be more interested in a "use 64-bit on render" option..
I haven't noticed a difference either to be honest, but I haven't done any scientific testing: it doesn't seem to have a large cpu hit, so I've been leaving it on just in case!
