T2 - a massive disappointment

This is software written by an individual. Thats why its good. 6 months for quicktime / midi controllers / midi editor enhancement / input meters / and loop recording seems about right. I would figure timestretching/folder tracks/ and a full-featured MIDI editor might take 4 more. Its more important to me that features be right than that they be there, if you know what I mean. Otherwise I could go back to dp (which I won't).

This is so true - it's one of the reasons i like reason - & the main reason i jumped off the cubarse merry go round.semiquaver wrote:Its more important to me that features be right than that they be there, if you know what I mean.

How long do YOU think it took ONE person to program a brand new MIDI editor? How long to code all the new hardware support? Quicktime? How long do you really think it took to reprogram the whole color setup so you can change the color of EVERYTHING? How long do you think it took to implement broadcast wave file? You'll be happy they took the time to do it the first time you have to send your waves to another program and you don't have to put them in time because they are already there! How long do YOU think it took ONE developer to write in 64 bit mixing?
This is just a handful of the things that were added. For ONE single developer, this is astonishing. Plus, the plug-ins you will get are way more than the price of T2 alone.
Anyone who says that they can't see what Jules has been spending his time on is just not looking close enough. I'd like to see how long it takes ONE Cubase developer to add this stuff. I don't think most people realize that Jules is just ONE man. Cubase, Sonar, Logic, etc. have an entire team of coders, and they still can't release as stable of a product as Jules.
If you don't see these things, go use something else. Then you'll see what you've been missing. Plus, T1 was severely under-priced, so nobody is ripping you off with the T2 price. That's more like what T1 should have been priced, IMHO.
I'm buying, if for nothing else than to support Jules. But it's far worth it for me. Remember what Lunch Money said, it won't make your bed! Just because you can't physically SEE the features, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Wow - this thread was as predictable as the recent T3 thread
It's been out, what, half a day? I haven't even got round to downloading it yet.

As i mentioned earlier 2day I was ready straight away to purchase T2 online - only there seemed to be a problem with the link taking me to a T1 purchase page, & I would prefer to avoid any confusion due to possible problems on the mackie website. If it turns out that only already existing T1 customers can upgrade to a minimal T2 online I may pursue that option if permissible, as I am interested in T2 itself, not the bundled plug-ins.

It would be nice to do something as basic as solo a group track without having to solo each track in the group. It's absurd that that wasn't addressed. I appreciate the solitary genius, but perhaps at times it takes more than one genius to step back and see some obvious things.

I was a little disappointed at first to be honest. But then again I thoight to myself "If it aint broke, why fix it?"
I dont want it to perform miracles. I just want it to do what it does best: make music quickly and simply. It has busses, better midi editing, custom colours, a full suite of plugins and better cpu usage (from what I can tell). Its not gonna be cubase because it doesnt have to be.
I think the price shouldn't have moved though. $199 is too much.

Personally - after three months of T2, I couldn't go back to T1. I tried. It just felt rough and unfinished.
T2 is evolution, not revolution, and for my money it is definitely going in the right direction.

Hey T Community, Great Day!! I can't try this out where I'm at right now, but I just looked over the User Guide, and it looks great (good job writing that guide, btw).
Here's a third for koolkey's post...Jules is doing a spectacular job, and it's rather humorous that this 'one-man show' is a very viable alternative to those big 'ol bloated apps coded by several dudes.
I also agree with what a couple others said, that this update kinda reaffirms what we've known for awhile- Tracktion started out so damn good, that no major overhaul was needed for T2. So, I do feel a lot of the changes are things that may not be immediately visible. I LIKE IT THIS WAY. Of course we each have some things we hope for in the future (modern timestretch, maybe on-board audio editing...Beno, when you get back, please start that Wishlist you mentioned).
It dawns on me as I write this that I'm still a non-paying customer. I used the Mac demo for months, and then that NFR offer came out. I just paid $150 a short time ago to upgrade DP, but I'm going to go put my money where my mouth (and heart!) is, and support Jules, Mackie, and my favorite music application. Have fun everybody; we're lucky people!
And thanks again Jules.

I think T2 by itself would be a little expensive, but coupled with the plugs it comes with, it looks like a *very* attractive package to someone perusing the shelves of Guitar Center or Sam Ash.

This is wisdom of the ages in the software world. Singularity of aesthetic. Consistency of design. Cohesive architecture.semiquaver wrote:This is software written by an individual. Thats why its good.
Although it's not perfect, I think it's best to try to hang in there and support Tracktion, it's a unique diamond in a world filled with cubic zirconia, glass, and plastic. It is not perfect, but it is an extremely well-thought-out architecture and design, and it is a very capable and stable tool. I believe it will improve with each update, rather than degrading into bloated chaos like a lot of commercial apps.A successful system must have a unified architecture, most likely arising from a single mind.

So glad to finally read some reasonable, well-thought out posts in here. There seem to be a few lurkers (like myself) that have come out of the woodwork with T2 comments. I have yet to try the demo, but I'm not expecting a radically changed application. An enhanced T1 is exactly what I'm hoping for.
I would guess that anybody questioning the development time has never been a developer. Doing things properly takes time. I can't emphasise 'properly' enough.....
