Not sure if this has been requested in 2.0 yet... How about a proper preset browser? Something along the lines of Rhino 2.0's built in browser would be perfect - allowing you to catalog sounds in different categories: bass, lead, pad, etc.
I got to thinking of this because I realized that I nearly have 1000 presets for EVE, and thats before the new 200+ included with Evalon! Thats a ton of presets! Some kind of organization system would make searching an accessing sounds you need alot quicker and easier.
What do you guys think?

the new preset button in 1.8 really helps things along. the only thging i think it needs now (regarding presets) is amybe a tiny 'bank' button next to the preset button.

'bank' button it's easy to add, but preset browsers
would mean a whole new code, with backward compatibily issues

I'm confused. Are you saying you can't use new code in 2.0?liqih wrote:'bank' button it's easy to add, but preset browsers

no, just that is big job, <grin>floyd wrote:I'm confused. Are you saying you can't use new code in 2.0?liqih wrote:'bank' button it's easy to add, but preset browsers

and that would mean higher price for the upgrade,
we could make a poll: how much would you pay to have a new presets sytem in EVE?

how about just a few simple changes:
one thing i didn't like when i updated the demo version of EVE from 1.22 to 1.4h was the "look" of the new preset button.
don't get me wrong. functionally, i love it. if it wasn't there, i would definitely be requesting it!
instead, i mean the "hacked-on-afterwards" look. a blue button (?) placed where it doesn't naturally belong, crowded, strange size. it just screams: after-thought!
it detracts from an otherwise BEAUTIFUL skin. like a pimple on a pretty girl.
could it at least be sized and colored to be consistent with the rest of the GUI? make it look like the other drop-down menu buttons. Use "PRST" as a text label if size is an issue. you could add a Bank select menu in the same way.
another approach might be to get rid of it and simply reverse the positions of the "About" and "Presets..." entries on the main menu. then a simple double click on the EVE logo would take you straight to the Presets menu. how many times have you unintentionally opened the ABOUT box when trying to get to something useful on the main menu?
and reversing these entries would put the About box at the bottom where it belongs (and is found on almost every other menu i've ever seen which includes an About Box
)
you could put the Bank entry as the second entry in the main menu to make it easier to access once the menu is open, or use right click (currently unused) in the EVE logo/tool tips area to give direct access.
i don't know. i'm just free-associating here...i would just like to see the GUI made beautiful again. maybe none of this makes sense once i see the v1.8 GUI, but i suspect it hasn't changed much...

Speaking of afterthoughts.. wtf is up with that funky coloured 'phazer' icon? I'm sorry, but it looks ridiculous - doesn't fit at all.JamminFool wrote:instead, i mean the "hacked-on-afterwards" look. a blue button (?) placed where it doesn't naturally belong, crowded, strange size. it just screams: after-thought!
