CPU spike every 7 to 8 seconds

Hi,
I'm trying to work out what Tracktion (both version 1.6 and 2) does every seven to eight seconds while idling in the edit window.
I have end-to-end turned off both globally and on all inputs. And the Tracktion CPU meter sits at zero. But whenever Tracktion is running (whether or not it is minimized) the Windows (XP SP2) task manager shows a 40% CPU spike every 7 seconds or so. It doesn't happen with Adobe Audition or Cooledit.
This only happens on my Pentium M 1.7GHz laptop, not my PII-650 desktop. (Standard windows drivers for built-in AC97 on both).
BTW I have no virus checkers, and I removed every other background - eg. all network interfaces, unnecessary windows services and other 'hidden' laptop background tasks.
Has anyone else seen this? What does Tracktion do every 7 to 8 seconds that might cause this?

Never come across that one.. got any USB devices plugged in? Have you tried different audio drivers (eg: ASIO4ALL)? Have you set up windows to prioritise background services?
All complete guesses I'm afraid..

Autosave is off, but the spikes don't happen with ASIO4ALL, just a constant 20% CPU usage in the edit window. Who knows what is going on.AD80 wrote:Try adjusting the auto-save feature to another time to see if thats the problem. Maybe its autosaving somehow.

try running the notebook without the battery pluged in. (really not only with additional power suplie, take the battery out of the notebook !!) if then it won't happen, it's the batterycontroll. you can disable this in the devices controlpanel of xp. but as i said, first try it without battery.
i need a lunch break

No, can't be that, or it would happen every 1 to 2 seconds.platinumears wrote: Think about sex?

I've just plugged in a MOTU Traveler and the CPU is a constant 12%, no spikes. This seems a bit more sane. The spikes probably have something to do with Microsoft's sound driver or the sound chip. The ASIO4ALL driver uses 25% constantly, but you can still see a little spike to about 30% every 8 seconds.
What sort of CPU usage do others here get when Tracktion is just sitting there doing nothing (with e-to-e off and inputs/outputs disabled)?
