I've got the quantize in Live4 turned off but yes your right, default it's on (16th notes). Try the loop recording in T2 - Seems "off" and glitchy for sure. The first note doesn't drop out as T1 but it's not "locked in" either.

Live is a great product, however, it's a DIFFERENT beast. How can people compare the two apps? Live does have sequencing features, but it is not designed primarily for the same thing as Tracktion. Just like Tracktion isn't designed for live use.
As a sequencer, Live is missing several important features, such as freeze. Tracktion had freeze before Logic even had it. Live is just now recently even getting MIDI features, and from what I've seen posted, it's not terrific. And VST support? Not Live's strong point.
I'm not dissing Live, but just pointing out that it's completely different in it's market and it's purpose.
And Ron, you're not even close with saying that there's nothing near the amount of new features they've said. Take an hour or two and just LOOK through the software manual, the keyboard shortcut list, and all the menus. You'll find so many hidden things that were added. I think you expected too many more visual features, which it was apparent it wouldn't be that way. But then again, it doesn't surprise me that some people are still griping with no grounding behind their gripes.

I'm using a 500mhz laptop running win98se.
Does a 500mhz laptop work well with xp or win2000?
How much Ram?
I can't use T2 with my current setup and don't know if
I can run xp or 2000 on my 500mhz laptop with 128meg of Ram. I could upgrade with an additional 256mb for a total of 384mb.

I'm not sure why some people feel the need to be so defensive and even hostile and insulting towards those who are disappointed. Do you really think that all those people are lying about their unhappiness just to get your atention? Has it ever occured to you that someone else might work a different way, do someting you don't do, and the features they really needed for their work just weren't there?
I understand being a fanboy, I'm a huge Tracktion fan. But I really thought there'd be more to it after all this time. It's a great program, maybe I was just expecting too much. I use Pro Tools most of the time, but Tracktion has been my program of choice on the laptop.
I just thought from all the build up that it was going to at least address some basic issues and become more "pro", that was certainly the impression I got. And I'm sure for some people it did. I see some people talking about new features and think "what the hell is that and why would I want that?". I think that might explain why some are happy some are not. But just because you have all you need doesn't mean someone else is wrong for being bummed.
I just got the impression from mackie that we weren't waiting 8 months for a 1.7 version.
I really don't understand the weird, defensive argument about it "only being one guy". What do I care how many guys it is? Are they charging money for it? If it was free that would be totally different. Then again if you're complaining about a free program for any reason (and people do) you're a jackass, but that's another issue;-) If they are charging for it I don't care if it was one guy or 100 guys and they all miss their families and never get any sleep. I greatly admire and appreciate Jules' work and I'm totally amazed that one guy can do it, but that means nothing as far as how I feel about a program. If it takes more than one guy to get it done, hire more guys.
I definately think Tracktion is headed in the right direction, I'm just not sure how long it going to take to get there. I guess I'll go do something else and come back and check on it. A watched pot...

Well, T2 looks nice so far, but I have found a couple of serious problems/annoyances (to me).
They all are related to synch issues. First, when loop mode is on, the fist few midi notes in the track play a bit "rushed". A bit like if you start to run but then stumble the first couple of steps before you fall into stride.
Sometimes, audio clips are way off synch compared to the midi clips when I press play. So far, stopping play and starting it again has worked to correct this. Still, it doesn't get my confidense up.
The last main problem is related to racks and send filters. I put DK+ in a rack with all outputs connected. Then I put this rack on three tracks. One of the tracks had a send filter, connected to a delay filter via the return filter (it's all hooked up according to the user manual). This track was so out of synch it was absolutely useless.
This may be because I'm using the internal soundchip on my laptop, which is admittedly quite crap. I tried using the ASIO4ALL drivers with the T2 demo, but no luck.
Still, T2 is quite nice, and I appreciate the improvements in the midi department.

hi guys!
i appreciate the work of other people (jules and mackie team).
but i have to say that i buy the update only if it will be under 40/50 euros...
and only as an investment for future (T3 in a 5 or 6 years
).
The midi editor is still a 'toy'.
No clip automation copy.
No good time-stretch/pitch shift algorythm.
No proper 'curve' tools to do midi CC and automation editing.
No simple way to split clips...when you have to do a lot of splitting moving the cursor to position is a pain in the ass...a 'split' tool would be a must.
Good luck to everyone with T2..i'll come back when T3 will be ready (or T4)
lowe to you all
jules and mackie guys included.
thanx for the fun i got workin' in the early T1 days

Depends how you define "pro". I would be happy to desribe even T1 as pro because you can easily get professional sounding results.bongo_x wrote: I just thought from all the build up that it was going to at least address some basic issues and become more "pro", that was certainly the impression I got. What puts peoples backs up is not that someone doesn't like it, but the way it's put. If someone says "this sucks" rather than "I don't like this because...", the former is likely to be viewed as somewhat more hostile .

What makes Tracktion "pro" is not its feature-set, but its user-base. I'm a "pro" and have used T1 for paid work. ergo: T1 was a "pro" app.

As a rewire host i'll definately stick with tracktion - though the lack of being about to define & move a range of midi cc data within a clip is a pita, i can work around that - but the rewire implementation itself is a vast improvement over all the 'pro' studios - last i checked sonar still had a very limited no. of rewire channels (may have changed) - & cubarse still used their archaic mono rewire channels which you then had to group using their (rather inflexible) grouping sytem in order to have stereo channels - & logic (pc) doesn't (& will probably never) support rewire2. All in all i'm pleased - & am hopeful that future updates will address my problems (I would dearly like a form of groove quantising where one can grab a groove from a midi file lifted from a rex file for example & then apply that to your own midi files - i liked that in sx & in reason). I can understand people who don't think there is much there 4 the amount of time it took - i was kind of hot & cold myself yesterday, but I do have faith in mackie & jules to start rolling out incremental updates to address other features - & I have a feeling that they are going to try to keep it as simple & as stable as possible - which is what I want (what i really, really want - a-la spice girl stylee)

A few ppl have said that T2 let us realize how good T1 was(and still is). Can't agree more. Will be checking up T3 once it's released a few years later...(or whatever other program jules' working on - which must have been taking him lots of time)

T2 is nice, several features are well worth the upgrade for me.
However, it is a pity that PDC still doesn't work when looming inside racks, and that clip based automation is not here. oh well.

I'm with Bongo.. I was just hoping for a little more PRO..with T2 ..I'm a full time producer/engineer working with some of the top players/artists in many markets..its hard to push T2 to this group of Protools /mark of the unicorn/cubase/radar people.. in Ts current state.. I guess I was hoping for too much..

I'm also disappointed especially after such a long wait and still no release just a demo. I'm thinking of looking at other hosts for now. I did purchase T1 last year and found it interesting but cannot afford to wait forever for a completed package. I think Jule was doing great before big business took over.
