BTW for me it's whatever beat my toe is tpping to, rarely do I compose songs on drums. Usually it's guitar, bass or organ. So if I like the way a riff soundsI will record 4-8 measures and use a tap tempo. Then because I tend to speed up as I work on a song I tend to bump it up a few bpm...always trying to pust the envelope you know..

Kind of extreme, I know, but I always come up with my best stuff at 180 BPM.

That raises a good point. How do different time signatures affect your preferred tempo?

Which time signatures were people using, when they made these "favorite tempo" statements?

What's your favourite tempo??
