T2 - a massive disappointment

I personally think that T2 is now completely marketable T1, complete with manuals, and tweeked enough so that you don't feel like ... youre using an underground program like EXT or whatnot. It feels more solid, and im sure there is a lot more going on behind the coding that we didnt realize. At first I was kind of disappointed, like "Thats it?" Those are the major features that were mentioned, and we got what we were told. I still need to check out the midi stuff etc.

On the 500mhz talk, I was using t1, about 29 tracks were there on winxp 256mb ram. It hiccupped like maybe eight times within 5 hours of work. All the time also the cpu level was at 5% or so. Cant beat that. I hope t2 works just as well with it.

I think that saying T2 is an update will fare better for T1 users, I simply feel that T2 really just is a significant upgrade, but not really worthy of saying its version 2... Maybe I'm wrong, but it just kind of upset people to see there werent DRAMATIC changes made. Nonetheless T2 looks great and I still have a lot of exploring to do

I'm not sure why some people feel the need to be so defensive and even hostile and insulting towards those who are disappointed. Do you really think that all those people are lying about their unhappiness just to get your atention? Has it ever occured to you that someone else might work a different way, do someting you don't do, and the features they really needed for their work just weren't there?

I understand being a fanboy, I'm a huge Tracktion fan. But I really thought there'd be more to it after all this time. It's a great program, maybe I was just expecting too much. I use Pro Tools most of the time, but Tracktion has been my program of choice on the laptop.

I just thought from all the build up that it was going to at least address some basic issues and become more "pro", that was certainly the impression I got. And I'm sure for some people it did. I see some people talking about new features and think "what the hell is that and why would I want that?". I think that might explain why some are happy some are not. But just because you have all you need doesn't mean someone else is wrong for being bummed.

I just got the impression from mackie that we weren't waiting 8 months for a 1.7 version.

I really don't understand the weird, defensive argument about it "only being one guy". What do I care how many guys it is? Are they charging money for it? If it was free that would be totally different. Then again if you're complaining about a free program for any reason (and people do) you're a jackass, but that's another issue;-) If they are charging for it I don't care if it was one guy or 100 guys and they all miss their families and never get any sleep. I greatly admire and appreciate Jules' work and I'm totally amazed that one guy can do it, but that means nothing as far as how I feel about a program. If it takes more than one guy to get it done, hire more guys.

I definately think Tracktion is headed in the right direction, I'm just not sure how long it going to take to get there. I guess I'll go do something else and come back and check on it. A watched pot...

I mean how meny other appz get as high as x.6.0.1 before bumping up the x?

lets just hope we get as meny free updates this time round!!

T2 is not only the fuking bollox but its also cheap as c**t!!!

I'm not thinking that the disappointed people are imagining their unhappiness, I just think they've jumped the gun and were expecting superficial changes to serve as an upgrade placebo.

I maintain that if the GUI had changed dramatically and had more glowy crap in it (at least as an option or as the default) but even FEWER features, there wouldn't be as many peeps. Too many people are fooled by the superficial.

The annoying part isn't that (SOME) people are disappointed, its that they haven't stepped back to consider the big picture. They get an app that LOOKS very much the same, and when they press 'record', by golly it still just records. After 10 minutes, just because they haven't stumbled across anything that couldn't be done in Microsoft Wave editor, it's the *program's* fault for not having the outward appearance of increased complexity and depth?

I think the users need to consider the immense amount of work that had to go into each and every feature improvement before they claim it's only a 1.7 release. When you think about it all, a 0.1 increment is ridiculous and insulting to Jules' efforts.

I think the disappointed people are disappointed because the stuff that has been added/updated doesn't match closely enough with what they were hoping would be updated/added.

I can't quite say im disappointed with the midi editor yet because i havent had ANY time to play with it. I hope it freaking rules, i didnt check to see if i can lock down the grid.

Indeed. This was one of the things I really wanted from T2. The midi editor is a lot better now, but without this feature it's still not 100% there.

What bugs me the most about T2 is the bugs. Read my previous post in this thread to see what I mean.

not exactly.. we knew some things that would definitely be updated.. but the mackie site indicated that there would be 150+ improvements (if my memory got the number right) which still left most new stuff a mystery (and still offered hope that we'd see some extra often-requested-changes incorporated).. so when folks got the demo, some ppl were disappointed. of course.

I agree with "of course" but only to the extent that there will always be SOME disappointments. I think most of us know that in the world of marketing, when someone says "128 changes made" we are aware that the following rules will apply:

-set length of notes in MIDI editor is ONE feature
-line tool in MIDI editor is ONE feature
-velocity lane in MIDI editor is ONE feature

see what I mean? When you sub-divide the features, a number like 128 comes up, but I would have thought most of us would be aware of this sort of thing....

Broacast .wav is ONE feature, but you can't "see" it, so you don't instantly remember it or remember that it's highly useful.

I dunno about the sub-dvisions, but when I see a list like:

- now has X
- supports Y
- improves Z
- and a host of other fixes and improvements.

I think: Oh, three big features. Anyone who thinks that wave editing or time stretch would not have been a headline feature is probably best avoiding a career in marketing.

I personally think the time for complaining is over. I think people should fall into four categories now:

1. Satisfied and waiting to buy/upgrade.
2. Semi-satisfied, waiting to buy/upgrade and wait for fixes/features to mature. Find workarounds when necessary.
3. Unsatisfied but watching future versions to give you what you need.
4. Unsatisfied and moving on.

I'm fitting in #2. Things I'm not satisfied about I've been aware of for months. But T2 improves T1 enough to make it a good fit for me and I'll mess with the demo until it is released and probably buy it. But I'm done complaining.
