If freeze were left alone (which I see no reason at all for not adding single track freeze) then improve render so that it automatically mutes the midi track, and if you re-render it will automatically replace the 1st rendered file with the second on the same track.

That would be an improvement, although I would still prefer a freeze to single track option because it is so much cleaner visually.

If I freeze 10 tracks, then I have 10 tracks taking up physical and mental space. Particularly since there is no way to hide those tracks, or group them.

Add folder tracks, and improve render as I suggest above, and then the midi track can be a sub track of the rendered track. Then freeze can be left alone.

Whether you call it freeze or render, the workflow could be better.

One other thing. How does freeze work? If I have 7 frozen tracks on a 20 minute piece of music, and I freeze another track, how long will that freeze take? So does it then render 8 tracks together? Or does it remember the first 7 somehow, and only have to calculate one track?

Usually after I make a post, nobody responds and the the thread dies--so this seems like a good time for me to stick in two feature ideas:

1. MMC so I can control the transport buttons with hardware--or is this already there?

2. Here's an original one; I thunk it up all myself: cntl-drag a midi input to more than one track so I can super-easily layer softsynths. YES I KNOW it can be done with racks--but this would be faster.

Move along now.

Not like everything you say is discouraging. But you can be  No offense. I remember when you posted the beat-slicing tutorial when we were talking about lack of decent timestretch, that was highly productive and encouraging, but you can also be smug and act like 'love it or leave it' and act like Tracktion has no flaws, just flawed users.

Anyway, didn't mean to make you cry ;)

1. Its in T2, try the demo.

2. Use a rack. :P If you make a rack that just connects the MIDI in to the MIDI out, then copy its rack filter to several tracks, any synths placed after the racks on the extra tracks will recieve the same MIDI. ie: once you have the rack filter built, layering a new synth just means CNTRL-dragging a copy of the rack to a new track, and adding a synth after it..

I'm warning you, platinumears--that smug "get a rack" attitude of yours is starting to wear on me...

Greetings peeplz... having a great time with the T2 demo. I hope they do make a sticky post for this, both here and at the Mackie forum. I think Beno already talked about that.

1) Acid/Live/GarageBand/etc-quality timestretch/beat analysis
2) Built-in browser for previewing/importing REX/Acid/Apple loops. I don't know if this is common in many hosts, but check out how it's implemented in GB and Logic, where you can audition a loop (at least Apple loops) while your tracks are playing back, and the loop is played back at the proper pitch and tempo, letting you decide if you want to import it or not.
3) Select an percentage amount for quantize on the input (like you can for already recorded MIDI clips)
4) Option to name markers (append text to the number, I guess)

PMJI, but....
I, a newbie to the forum and to Tracktion 1/2, have found PlatinumEars' input to be generous, timely, and across a broad spectrum of T subjects. I've personally been the beneficiary of VST programming time on a subject that isn't even of use to him, and he's then GIVEN (not sold) me the source code. And, again, I'm not only new, but frustrated with the changes to my work flow T will require if I go this way....in other words, a fringe user with a tenuous future here.

If I do go with T, it will, in part, be because of Platinumears. I don't view responses that require the "asker" to rethink and re-tool their methods as "defensive" of the product. I relish the input as "local savvy" that, while different from Logic (or in my case, Cakewalk), could result in a better, if different, process to get to my destination. Sort of..."oh, thats how you do that here in Tracktion". In the end, I'll decide which platform best suits me...so while I'm deciding I want PlatinumEars, Lunch Money, Semiquaver (yes, you too :D ) to protect their turf & tell me why I do or don't need to do this or that one way or the other.

Judge the method, not the mailman. Thank the mailman, encourage the mailman, LOVE the mailman for arming you with info to compare and rate time-spent, think-style, and flow to your previous home.

And in conclusion:
I'd like T2 to import Patch lists of external synths so I can do this:

There Platinum....just like you asked. You know where to send the check....oops...did I type that out loud?:hihi:

Mate, he's talking bollocks, but then, he seems to be getting a chip on his shoulder that people don't necessarily agree with him, so that obviously means they're being vindictive ...

Personally i'm sick to f**king death hearing about how logic does it, but i'm trying to keep that to myself
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"

I was a bit harsh saying platinumears is a discouraging influence, but I stand by the feeling that some posters here just defend T without acknowledging other people's views as valid. This is after all a thread with feature requests. It got dragged down into me defending a feature request, now absurd is that?
