Any idea what sort of station you had tuned in? Reminds me a bit of some sort of marine nav beacons. It has a beautiful, almost organ like quality about it, similar in some ways to some of Messiaen's mellower organ pieces. Great stuff, can't wait to hear more.

You can hear the signal I was using right through the track. It's totally raw during the latter half of the fade-out. It's shortwave band 6 by the way . Picked up some lovely buzzing interference (humming a warm fuzzy D) from my monitor.

The Messiaen reference has totally, totally made my day . I'm listening to Oraison right now and feeling utterly humbled. Many thanks.

Haven't heard your stuff before - this is really beautiful. It's rare that people twist melodic elements out of shortwave (John Duncan's 'Phantom Broadcast' is the only one I can think of off the top of my head) and you've pulled it off perfectly.

there's no way to sync an audio file to the timeline in Mulch.

Acousmodules' Octomag will work - eight file players that can be started in sync with the master timeline.

I've tried them, but doubt I have a use for them. I'm so used to sync'ing with automation that I just don't feel the need. Suppose they're useful for reducing screen clutter.

Not sure how they handle looping, whether the loop point gets set to the end of the longest file or if each file loops on its own. Longest file length would be cool, as it would be new functionality over the standard file player.

Did some testing, appears there is only one loop point at the end of the longest file. Kind of cool to have that. No mute/solo per wavefile yet, but I guess that can be managed with a mixer.

Without all the background of how this track came about I was allready slowly cuddled into a most gorgeous melody. With the background and reading through the thread the track acquired depth even more.

shamann: That's the problem I was having. You can't skip around on the timeline and have the audio in sync, so composing with mixer fades around the improv part was frustrating. Maybe being forced to listen from the start each time has had a positive effect on the finished article though . Bummer about the sync, but maybe we can bug Ross to implement that in time for version 1.

Mystahr: I'm really pleased that you found some emotion in the track (as I do ). It's great that people can listen without knowing how I made it and enjoy it as it is.

vtx: I guess it does have a kind of rushing water sound to it in parts . Thanks for listening.

One more thing, If anyone can tell me how to sort out phase issues without affecting the sound that'd be great. The input signal actually cancels itself out in some situations, and I'm worried it could do the same on some stereos leaving people with half a track . It's OK on my little boombox and my flatmate's stereo, but it's still a worry.

Just tried them myself - seem to be mono players, so I'll stick to Octomag, which is stereo players. Can't stand mono signal chains.
