I've tried redownloading, and different compatibility modes just for the sake of trying. I've emailed Propellerheads about it with no reply, and posted in the Reason forum with no reply.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

Yep - Reason 3 demo only uses Reason 3 demo files and it's all new Code from the ground up so early versions are incompatible on the same system I'm afraid.

Windows XP
1.3GHZ
320 RAM
Augidy with KX drivers(works great with all other apps)

"How do you run Protools on an Audigy with KX drivers :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?:"

Thanks for any help!

why is there so much pro tools anxiety on the forum here? I feel like i'm back at music school again.
Seems more like Pro-Tools paranoia on your behalf.
I couldn't give a damn what host or platform you use but starting of with mentioning P-tools and Reason Adapted and then saying Audigy w KX drivers .
It's a bit of an oxymoron is it not ?

Post

What's wrong with that? I use Tracktion. I have an Audigy. If it's not broke, don't fix it. With school, I got a laptop with an MBox with Reason Adapted as part of the package. I do have PT on my PC also, and I run Adapted there too. It's just the setup I have. And it works fine. I do like PT alot, very powerful, however. Not trying to be defensive, but it's just the way my setup is. I use whatever is needed at the time.

I don't want to start any kind of host conversation. I do appreciate any help to fix the problem.

Hey Koolheys I wasn't refering to you I was refering to "Mr.I'mNotAWhiteBoy" aka Xraydelta.
I was trying to explain to him the question with regards to pro-tools & kx drivers w/ audigy .
Which you had already answered .
And answered well enough.
We weren't having a debate on DAW platforms until Mr.InferioritycomplexofaProToolsuser chimed in. :x
Sorry didn't wan't to hijack your thread and I can't work out why it isn't starting either .
Anything else you have system wise that may be conflicting ?
Oh yeah and I gather your 1.3ghz p4 is a Centrino ( if you're using ProTools ) .
I do know Reason3 seems to need a bit more grunt than previous versions and that it's based on a whole new code set .
Other than that I think you're in the hands of the Prop's tech people I'm afraid. :(

It's ok, I took no offense. I realized who you were talking to. I guess I just was explaining myself again.

Anyway, my 1.3 isn't a Centrino. It's not on a laptop. My laptop is my Mac. My desktop is my PC. It's a Celeron, which I know isn't as good as a real Pentium, but as I said, it's always worked on everything I've done. I can run demos of other brand new software just fine.

Plus, I would think that I could at least START the app, even if it didn't run great. But it gives me the splash screen and the demo warning, saying the limitations. Then it gives me the message. It's in a Windows error box, and it doesn't give any more details, just "Failed to open file".

Usually I can trace what is going wrong, but maybe I won't be able to get this running. Again, my Celeron has NEVER prevented me from running any program at all, music or otherwise.

I'll be messing more tonight when I get home. I guess I'll just have to be patient with it.

Oh, and I've tried disabling virus protection and stuff. Tonight I will try to make a new login with nothing but the basics and install just Reason demo and see if it works. Who knows, I'm willing to try anything now.

It may be looking for a file called default.rns in its root dirctory.

Now with improved MIDI jitter!

I'll have to make sure it's there. But I would think the demo would put everything in the right spot. I have redownloaded several times. I'll check just for the sake of checking, but who knows........

I just FINALLY got a response from Propellerheads. All they suggested is to remove adapted and check for the latest audio drivers. I already did that. I told them that in the first email. So I emailed him again. Who knows if they can help or not. I hope so, and if not, I hope somebody here may read this and know what to check that I haven't checked already.

I can get a copy of Reason 2.5 for under $200, but I really, really like the version 3.0 from what I've messed around with on a friend's computer and even my Mac iBook, where the demo works great.
version 2.5 is almost just as powerfull as 3- 3 just has a few extra features not worth making a song and dance over.. personally i think the sequencer in Reason is shiddy and the whole thing is damn fiddly.

Post

I don't even know how much I want it. For me it will be more of a sound module, and most likely a scratch pad to rewire to Tracktion. But if I can't get it working, then I guess there's my answer as to if I even consider it or not.

I use 2.5 at school sometimes, and I agree, it's still a nice app. Who knows, I may just forget about it. But I am determined to figure out why it doesn't work. It's that way any time I have a computer problem.
