Why can't we buy it yet?

Anyone have any insight on this? I mean, other than "it's not for sale, yet".
It seems ready for release, the website is already set up to do "download only" sales, there's a demo available...?

What am I missing here?

Maybe the question of "download vs boxed" price? Licensing issues with the included plugs? Inclusion or not of the plugs via upgrade/download?

I'm satisfied with T2, and am ready to buy.
Somebody take my money, please!!

Ahh. It's nice to see the comaraderie and sense of humor among beta-testers is still intact.

I have no idea, but perhaps it is bad form for companies to release stuff for online sale before shipping the product to retail outlets. :?

I'd love to buy it.

the reason i think is: makie isn't sure how people react on t2, and they are right in this. as we've seen here, things aren't too bright for t2. i bet they aren't that positiv on the succsess. what makes me think this way is:
-no big sign on mackie home page about t2 demo
out
-no pro oriented marketing campaigne (more like musicians and homeusers)
-no response except beno
-100ths of plugins bundled to t2
-pants tool & helicopter on the t2 site (that is funny for myself, but that's like mackie things: this software is a little funny tool for kiddies to play around with)
-....if you want more, ask for :)

so they gone to test it a littlebit

I had that thought myself: that its more like a public beta - they're looking for a reaction from us! Unless that's my paranoia acting up again....

I think something is genuinely holding up the release. I think with the amount of advertising I've seen for T2, they fully expected it to be purchasable by now. It seems silly to spend all that money on advert with no product to sell.

Yeah, that must be it.

It's a demo. FOr all we know, the demo was released early purely to keep people happy on this forum. Why push the demo? Once the product ships they can ramp up the push to whatever level they desire. Right now it's all just wasted ammo.

-no pro oriented marketing campaigne (more like musicians and homeusers)
Because that's going to be their primary market for the forseeable future. Pros tend to already have sequencers, and there is not always much reason for them to change.
-no response except beno
Does Bill Gates often post on MS forums then?

-100ths of plugins bundled to t2{/quote]

Man this bugs me. Go back and search the hundreds and hundreds of threads in which people bitched about how few plugins shipped with T1. Despite the fact that the software sold for 80bucks, all you ever heard was: Fruity comes with all these plugins, Logic has built in everything, blah, blah, whine, whine.

Mackie hear that, respond with a very good package of 3rd party and proprietaryt plugs, and now everyone is complianing that they don't want the plugs, and that it makes the program look cheap???
-pants tool & helicopter on the t2 site (that is funny for myself, but that's like mackie things: this software is a little funny tool for kiddies to play around with)
Go look at the rest of Mackie's marketing. They do that kind of thing all over the place. It's part of Mackie's corporate indenity to be a little irreverent. Also, they were probably trying to show that the appreciate the community that surrounds Tracktion. It's a shame that when a company reaches out and says "we appreciate you," so many people feel it necessary to accuse them of desperation. Everyone moans about faceless companies, bugt then they moan when companies have an indentity too.

They're not making a fuss on the website because you can't actually purchase it yet. I think that's pretty obvious.

Let's see...major ad layouts in Electronic Musician, Tape Op, and many other magazines.... I think they're marketing to pros here. The readership of Tape Op alone tends to be pretty serious about recording...

fwiw I quite liked the irreverent approach (pants tool etc) - just a shame it dried up !

It does seem odd that there is this apparent gap in the whole marketing timeline - I don't think you'd ever plan it this way, so (imho) probably some unforseen and unfortunate hiccup with licensing a plugin or some such. Not ideal and probably will (again imho) impact the innitial takeup (imagine someone reading the positive review and rushing to the Mackie site to try/buy, then not being able to, then coming here to read up and seeing disafection, then holding off a bit and trying those other progs again . . .)

I'm ready to buy now, and whatever issues the demo may have, I'd love to have it unlocked as-is. I could live with it :D

My guess is that the plug-in partners will only be receiving royalties off the boxed version, and the contract stipulates they don't release a downloadable version first, which would undercut boxed sales. Something like that anyway. Otherwise, why not allow us to buy the demo?

That's exactly how it seems to me.
