Late to the T2 demo party!

Hey guys and gals!

I've just returned from a 2 week family holiday to Florida - fork lightening capital of the USA!... and in my absence I see the T2 demo has landed

Overall first impressions are GREAT, but I do have a few quick questions. Rather than wade through the VAST number of threads that have been posted in my absence, could anyone offer me some quicky answers?

1) I'm still getting MIDI note-dropping problems. In fact they are [i]worse[/i] than before. A file I created in T1 had the first note disappearing act which I cured by nudging the first note along by a coupl eof ticks. Opening this file in T2 the notes were disappearing again, and I had to nudge them even further. Has anyone else had this problem?

2) Same story with the Rewire problem - the bug where the first half beat of bar one is lost has grown, so that now 3/4 of the first beat is missing .

These two bugs were reported - what - two years ago? I was assuming they would be fixed in T2, so maybe this is just a problem on my system? Please let me know.

3) The publicity promised that all major audio formats would be supported, but in the demo I still don't see Mp3, WMP, Rex2, Acid, etc file imports. Is this a limitation of the demo, or are there no improvements in this aspect of T2?

4) Similarly, I still don't see support for the OMF format, which so many musicians use to move a project between home and pro studios. I know OMF is fiddly, but it would give my students the opportunity to move projects between T2 (at home) and Cubase (at school). If T2 doesn't have this I need to recommend they get Cubase SE to use at home instead of upgrading to T2, so that they can work productively. If anyone knows, please let me know so that I can give informed advice at the start of term next week.

The Mackie site said "all major audio formats", so I was assuming mp3 at least. Does anyone else know?

I don't think they should have to keep mixing down though. This would be a waste of their time, and also I think that they would be learning a process which is basically unecessary. As a general rule I try to teach stuff that leads to a good understanding of process.

OMF works so you don't have to do this. It's the format people use to transfer Logic projects across to Pro Tools, for example. It's also in Cubase, Sonar, DP... etc. WIth Tracktion gaining in professional credibility and features I was wondering if it would be there...

but i fixed problems 1 by adding the midi loop to be after the looped part of the track aswell

P.S any more info on omf?

would it work on vst/vsti's or only audio??

Mp3 support is crucial for professional work: I often receive emails of demos or other tracks from producers - these are either mp3s or MIDI files and I need to be able to import them/export them easily.

I have to comfess that while everyone else in my work life is using PT that we never communicate via OMF - tracks are always rendered and brought over as audio.

I haven't checked for tese features in T2 as I can't be bothered to use it anymore unless and until it is available! (you hear that Mackie!)

I second the need for OMFs... the film post prod guys always want OMFs, just like printhouses want PDFs. Not quite sure myself if these are the best possible formats, but that's how mac peeps see the world

The problem with MP3 support is that since it's patented, the owners charge alot of money to use their technology. Maybe the costs would have driven the price of T2 up a bit more, so they kept it out. But unless this has changed, MP3 is pretty expensive to get permission to use.

I know about the lame converters, but I don't believe Jules would be allowed to use them in T. It's open, isn't it? Anyway, I doubt it would have been cheap to add it. And anyone here can get Lame for themselves and do their own conversion.
