RMIV is free in that it comes free with the $149 T2.

Me too, use DR 008 and sometimes ST2 (I'm still trying hard to like it). And I'm not sure if I will have RMIV in a month

I´m mad about Spectrasonics Stylus RMX, a very powerful beast. I also like Fxpansion´s BDF. RMIV very good too...

i use microtonic for synthetic beats, reaktor for allsorts, and T's own sampler for quickly plopping things down. i actually tend to work almost exclusively with audio arrangements tho... i.e. putting each sample directly onto a track. Tracktion is perfect for this kind of operation. you have control over each individual hit that way without having to look at midi notes i doubt anyone would be swayed to my way of working but that's fine by me

remember that you can ctrl-drag a clip to copy it,
you can alt-drag the corner of it to detune it slightly (for variation) or even a lot,
you can colour code the hits,
changing the tempo keeps them lined up, as it's sortof manual-from-scratch-beat-slicing
each clip has vol/pan properties in the bottom panel (for variation w/o automation)
additional variety can be put onto individual hits with fx filters. just plop-em on!


and if you want to quickly play something, you can just copy the sample clip, and paste it into T's sampler for an instantly mapped midi-playable tinker.

actually.. this is more or less how I work as well... it's fit my way of working a lot better than midi. Tho I have to break out Shortcircuit for the weirdo destruction stuff. I also like microtonic for the synthetic pleasures.

I often do that with cymbals and hats. It seems like I have a better feeling of the decays etc than just using midi to represent the hits. I lay down the basic beat and flavor it. I have a lot of BetaMonkey single hits, and it's a lot easier to do it that way than to try loading them into a drum module.

I'm looking forward to RMIV myself. Nice and straightforward.

working as much like that as i do makes any other sequencer a pain in the ass.. just having individual clip vol/pan is a godsend for this kind of practise. individual clip filters, well... no turning back!

For me, DR-008 combined with Slicey/Fill-In Drummer is the absolute greatest combination. Every track, every day, it gets use. So many included kits plus MIDI files, so many features and modules, full mixing facilities, and with SD/FID there are endless drum patterns and possibilities, and sooooooo stable, with very low CPU usage. I am excited that RMIV will be included, but I honestly don't know how much use it will get.
