yeah i was wondering about this offer. i think its a little too good to be true to get 4 gigs of samples for free even if the ranges are limited that's a ton of sounds.synergy543 wrote:For about six dollars in shipping you can request the free demo CD from ilio and get another 4 Gig of free VSL samples. However I'm not sure if these overlap or not. Also, the demo ranges are limited but still quite useful.

i am looking at your repetition patch - just fed it into the repition bass instrument (pitched down an octave) and it sounds sounds silly - the repition instrument is only for short burst of repeated notes - only up to 5 quarter notes in the kontakt vl set
i am assuming that the whole thing is not one repeated runs so could you describe where you want the repetitions
PS i apologise now if i have got this all wrong as I am no classical composer

-first of all thanks for this leg example. sounds not bad. but...maybe I have expressed myself wrong...I was thinking of these kind of changeovers between two notes where the second tone is a little bit slurred/pitched because the string player had to slip with his finger in order to catch a fourth or a quint on the same string. kind of portamento, but not as extreme as a syn portamento. doesn't have the vsl library this option? at least at the northernsounds forum someone posted such an example with a french horn.
-concerning the stacc repet midi file: I knew that it would not make much sense to post midis and someone else just lets them play with the library. my midi file can't consider the sounds and the playing helpers from the k2 vsl library...cause I don't know its peculiarities...I would have to feel it under my fingertips. I just have posted something to motivate all the lucky ownwers of the library to do just something....just post sth...any short phrases that tell sth about the library's articulation strength....especially in connection with k2's scripts or whatever...you don't have to write a symphony to demonstrate some functions.
I would be very thankful for such short clips...and I assume lots of other mates here, too.
anyway...thanks for ur work and taking the time! give us more...
cheers

dunno about portamento - there cretainly isnt an easy option to do it in this library - but then the full opus 2 contains lots of runs and things - maybe they are in there
and the full pro library has all the lsides bends etc that you would need
but i will take up your classical challenge - just not today - work beckons i'm afraid

Here's a few more examples. Very simple G major scales played over 3 octaves, using all the different "Violin 14" ensembles. Velocity 100 for alll notes.
I left a click running while bouncing so nobody could complain about people possibly stealing the samples.
Sustain and legato examples actually have a small note overlap - I think avoiding those is one of the reasons to use legato for. It's working rather well IMO. Regarding the sound, some patches actually have a lot of bow noise in them, but I allready made some tests and a good EQ will defenitely help them in some situations.

Actually, what I seem to be missing is a nice solo vioin - or two. When building sections it usually sounds quite more convincing using independent instruments. Another way would be to have a section and add a solo violin on top.
But then, I think for section work the VSL portion of Kontakt 2's library is doing a nice job.
In addition, to me it's just obvious that the VSL folks would leave out the best stuff.
I mean, after all it's a sampler, not a sample library you're buying.

I got my K2 yesterday, and here's a few comments:
1) The library sounds really good. Although I actually liked the accoustic guitars in K1 library better. (or am I missing something? It looks like there are fewer accoustic guitar patches)
2) The new UI is really cool... I think adding inserts and effects is now WAY more intuitive than K1.
3) Convolution pretty much halted my machine when I tried turning it on when I had a huge piano sample loaded. Not sure if it takes some "pre-rending" that is worse depending on the size of the patch...

sasha .. thanx for the samples.
The bow noise on the higher pitched sustain and legato sounds was astonishingly loud, like someone sucking their cheeks (though the fortepiano sounded very good)
What makes your experiment interesting is when comparing the tones you got from your exercise with dramsenik's short clip.
He got an absolutely fabulous sound, a real winner, even if not "technically correct" ... and the bow noise didn't seem to matter at all.
A conundrum of sorts. The "music" sound is great, yet the "exercise" sound is iffy.
