I can't answer that without taking us further off topic. sorry all.

Post

Given that Cyphers last post mentioned the word anechoic, I guess so.

I am a Christian, but not Catholic. I have respect for the Pope (or did have until he died), however I feel I can mix subject matters as required whilst remaining focussed on a subject. This is my first post mentioning the lately departed. I doubt I shall mention him too many more times..

so it goes..

Yah. It's not like I'm happy that he's gone or anything. Different people matters differently to different people... :)

Post

snap. it's rubbish when people die, of course. but i never thought about him when he was alive so don't think much other than 'bummer' now that he's dead.

although i do wonder what kind of existence he had... a f**king weird as hell life as lives go; i.e. to my perceptions, his life was completely not what i'd call normal. is that a good thing? who knows..

either way, an anechoic room is WAY more important to me, because i give a stuff. sorry jp. ot sho-nuff.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Post

but, what about a christian alcoholic then?

An enveloper sometimes does a great job on this - at least on tails (obviously it won't work for "embedded" reverbs). I'm sometimes using digitalfishphones dominion for such things, but a gate might do as well.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Post

last attempt to get this back on topic. No hope SE adding a pre delay then?

Sorry folks, but after reading this thread I really feel the need to quote myself...

Reminds me of a guy I used to know in the UK called Roger Lindsay. He was/is a live sound engineer who has worked for some pretty big names - including Joe Jackson, Ry Cooder, etc.

Anyway, back in the early 80s he got a friend to build a "DFA Box" which consisted of a very proffesional looking peice of kit with 24 rows of various knobs, buttons, and different coloured lights. It sat next to his FOH mixer and was used to erm, "please the client". In other words, when some unknown artist's manager stood next to him during a soundcheck and made a comment like "could you make the lead vocal more whispy" Roger would just say "Sure man" and lean over to the DFA Box to tweak some controls untill the manager (or whoever) was happy.

It wasn't just managers. Sometimes lead guitarists would get the brunt of this technology too.

I think (but I'm not sure) that the friend who built Roger's DFA Box was Stephen Court, who is now the man behind Courtdesign - but don't quote me on that.

Either way, this was a great tool to have, it kept everyone happy. Perhaps Bram's Anechoic Chamber could be used in a similar context.

[for those of you who aren't sure, DFA means Does f**k All.]
Had to share that...

Again

:)

"What's the difference between a sound engineer and a toilet seat?" The answer... "A toilet seat only has to deal with one asshole at a time"
