OMF?

I saw headquests post about (among other things) OMF. Is this what Tracktion is talking about at their website when they talk about the .bwav format? Can anyone confirm or deny that this is working? Although I haven't used this yet been counting on T2 having it so that I can exchange tracks with my Sonar using friend. This could be make or break for me...

No OMF support at this time.
BWav, or 'broadcast wav' is an extension the wav format that allows an absolute time offset to be embedded in teh wav file so that compliant software can automatically set the correct start time. BWav *is* supported by T2.

I'm not sure if bwav is supported in Sonar, as I'm not a user, so make sure you check with your friend.
If it isn't - and if this is really a "make or break" for you - you will need to either get Sonar (Studio edition only costs a little more than T2)...
... or any of the many established sequencers that have OMF support.
Decisions, decisions! Anyway, I hope this helps.

Thanks for the confirmation Valley. It was a bit vague on the other thread!valley wrote:No OMF support at this time.
Perhaps this one can be added to the official feature requests, wherever that is...
Cheers

OMF embedds all audio files with edits (and if possible fades and basic automation data). OMF is kinda flaky in implementation, OMF2 is better. Still the safest way to exchange is to bounce each track individually to a seperate folder, making sure they all have the same start point.Reqs wrote:I saw headquests post about (among other things) OMF. Tracktion really needs EDL and OMF support. This is just a must to be used in the pro world. I think they said it is a planed feature. That will make life a bit easier.

Ah I think I see. My intention is to be able to exchange multiple files with my friend (I'm pretty sure that Sonar has bwav support) and import them directly into Tracktion and have them be in the proper place in time (and vice versa). The .bwav format will allow me to do this?

NO. He will need to render each track out and label them track 1,2,3,4 and so on. OMF would make this very easy!

yes - I'm not sure I'm following chriss' post above.Reqs wrote:The .bwav format will allow me to do this?
you'll need to map the files to tracks as chriss says, but bwav will take care of timing.

The difference with OMF is that it will handle MIDI as well as audio files, so that you don't need to render tracks. You can export your project as one file with everything in place, including automation, etc.
If Mackie plan to implement OMF in Tracktion that's good news, and I'm surprised they haven't already. As Chriss says, many professionals would see it as a must-have feature before considering the software.
