I truly and utterly love Tracktion 2!
I've used Cubase 1.01 up to SX2, I've used 2 versions of Cakewalk, 2 versions of Nuendo, Fruity Loops and 2 versions of Reason and I have written tracks that saw releases on vinyl and cd (admittedly those were low profile underground release) in all of them.
Tracktion is the first program that made me want to buy it. Why?
I love:
the midi editor of T2, no other program could make me forget the Cubase drum editor, not even Reason,
the simplicity of the layout, a DAW is not a reel to reel, nor is it a 19 inch rack mount piece of gear,
the one screen approach,
the UI in general,
the fact that there is no mixer,
the plugins that come with it,
the stability,
the underground feel of the program,
the colour schemes,
the price.
Tracktion is the first program that I bought on sight without having tried it for a long time without regretting it.
Not only that! It made me change my entire approach to software. Whereas in the old days I tried to install as much software on my DAW as possible, now I went for the less is more approach. There's even more. Of course I wasn't able to afford all those programs so all of them were cracks. After having bought Tracktion I ditched all cracks and tried to make my DAW as legal as possible, only reverting to a crack here and there if I couldn't live without the program, couldn't afford to buy it and if there were no free alternatives, which is not very often.
This is not a post about the ethics of software, nor do I pretend to a saint when it comes to it. All I want to say that a program that completely changes my approach to software and the way I make music with it I will fully support!
I am very much looking forward to the full T2 release and will be happy to fork the dosh out of my back account!
The great Tracktion appreciation thread

I agree with the general sentiment, but you may find that even an admission like this:

can get you into trouble round these parts..Slacknote wrote: only reverting to a crack here and there if I couldn't live without the program, couldn't afford to buy it and if there were no free alternatives, which is not very often.

I recorded myself playing slide guitar using a phone as a slide last night - the speed with which I could - enable the appropriate input - set levels - locate and then take/abort and retake 30 times - all without intruding on the considerable concentration necessary for a useless guitar player like myself to get a few notes intune ...
well - Ive been using the prog for a week or two and already I am getting more done and keeping better track of what I'm doing than I could in DP after 10+ years.
long life to T.
and re: cracks for the indigent - yes I think that people who don't have money are not wrong to help themselves to the tools they need for music making PROVIDED that they pay when they can esp when they have used something a lot.
I happen not to need to use cracks, but whats important is the music folks and I don't think that the better off among us should be the only ones heard. to each according to his need etc etc!

Same for me.
I got tracktion last year after years of DP and can now relax without the fear of all the crashes DP was prone to.
I'm looking forward to downloading the unlock key..I can live without the boxed version..
As for cracks i really like my girlfriends
