I have a 667 Ti and I think there's something wrong with your tower if it takes that long. Not that I think it is quick, I don't like it myself obviously. But I'd check into what's wrong with your system if I were you.

Of course it depends upon the length of your project. As I said in my original post, I do long compositions for video. The particular one I refered to was about 15 minutes long.
Try a 10 minute project with 10 tracks. Freeze 6 of them at once, then see how long it takes to freeze the 7th. It will take just as long to unfreeze it as it takes to freeze all 6 tracks at once.
Even if that 7th track had a single 1 minute clip and the rest empty, it will still take just as long to render.
My system is sound.
Anyway, it is not a big deal because render works well, and the extra tracks, while inconvenient, are not a serious impediment.
T2 is excellent as is. I found DP cryptic. Cubase is okay, but Tracktion is much better on system resources, crashes less, and is just plain fun to use. That is what I value most of all.
I signed up for one of the NFR copies of Tracktion. Once I heard T2 would have Quicktime support, and Midi clock out, I bought the full version the next day, and will purchase T2 the day it is available.

OK, after finding out the limitations of controller mapping, at least when using a mixer, is really limited, I'm gonna make a FR I'm sure won't happen: a custom control surface editor in the main settings, along with Mackie's mixers. Allow anything and everything to be mapped, and support cc and NRPN completely.
Now, I don't expect this to happen because it's in Mackie's financial interests for Mackie products to work better than any others with T2. I'm not blaming them, just saying it's a bummer.

I second Ceeda. Also I'd really love a simple audio editor instead of having to fiddle around with an external setup.
Failing that, I'd be happy even if we just were able to highlight a portion of a clip by dragging with the mouse rather than having to use the I and O markers. That would really speed things up - most of the basic editing functions are already there anyway.
Finally, it would be great to have some way of setting up the volume meters to change their operation depending on whether the track contains audio or midi. (See my earlier posting and the flurry of responses on "constant redlining.").

... err... that suggestion wasn't one of mine.
But I'll throw a vote in for it anyway...
(as long as we get the MIDI toolbar on the bottom of the clip instead of the top... oh, and those nice note-duration-long velocity bars instead of those horrible 2-pixel thin things we have at the moment.)

Valley to my yesterday post; you have misunderstood me. I know about 'm' key, but it enables you to assign the rulers to a clip. I meant situation when you have already zoomed into the clip and you want to loop around a halve bar or a beat.
Other think is that I can't find in T2's key-mappings 'show/hide the midi pop-up toolbar' option. This was handy, this midi toolbar often gets in the way.

Good point!Tingle wrote:I for one would use the individual freeze track instead of track render, especially as track render does not render at 32bit!

When you render to audio - which is clearly your prefered option - you get a set of choices (i.e. replace or add the rendered clip?)platinumears wrote: I do see a certain amount of possible harm in having two functions that are basically identical, with different names. Do that a couple more times, and Tracktion's deceptive simplicity will be a thing of the past. If Jules can extend the current freeze function without spoiling the overall vibe, more power to his elbow I say (esp. when he's rubbing my back) but I resent the suggestions that T's current freeze function is somehow broken or un-usable, and I really resent the thought that Jules might spend hours of time on it when it doesn't add any new functionality at all, but just saves some people two extra clicks when re-rendering a track.
I'm not sure why adding a similar range of choices for Freezing would be a problem?
Why do you think choice is OK for rendering but not for Freezing? I don't understand how this would cause a problem or make Tracktion a more complex sequencer?

A little one that haven't be sais alredy (i think)
I would love to see export options saved in the edit.
So that i don't have to modify everything each time i switch between a mix and a "master" edit.

And now to answer the original question...
1. Fix the MIDI note-dropping bug
2. Fix the Rewire bug
3. Smaller buttons in the lower part of the screen. The existing massive ones look like they were put there for children and/or the visually impaired.
4. Improved Freeze
5. Render clips at 32-internal floating bit
6. Improved timestretch/pitchshift/etc - audio tempo ramping
7. OMF format support for file transfer between systems
8. Mp3 and WMA import
9. Rex2 and Acid file support
10. Everything else mentioned by others above!
On the other hand, Sonar 4 has mostly all that... which raises an interesting dilema...
With the T2 price going up from $80 to $200 it's now edging towards Sonar 4 Studio, and is going to be compared against software that has all these features. But many of us here have chosen Tracktion over and above Sonar because we prefer its basic design and workflow.
So the real challenge will be to see how well Jules/Mackie can improve the feature set without detracting from ease of use.

Most of the things you mentioned are "under the hood", so they don't affect the usability. mp3/wma would be simply another entry in a dropdown field. And so on...headquest wrote:So the real challenge will be to see how well Jules/Mackie can improve the feature set without detracting from ease of use.
No need to worry about the workflow!

Hi, My first ever KVR post. I love Tracktion (discovering it was a godsend after torturing myself with Cubase VST - nearly upgraded to SX/SL, but am very glad I didn't) but was a little disappointed that T2 didn't really fix the issues that i was hoping would be fixed.
So my feature request:
1. Aftertouch/Channel pressure support (pleeeease, without this my CS80v is rendered - no pun intended -pretty useless). Not sure why its not there, isn't this just another type of controller data? Surprised this hasn't been mentioned much. Am i missing something?
2. More efficient freezing. Sorry to repeat everyone else, but a per-track freezing would be make my life so much easier, and I want Mackie/Jules to realise its not just a few of us that feel this way. Make it an option - put it in the settings page. And I don't buy the render to 2nd track method personally - its an extra step that seems completely unnecesary, and only adds clutter to my edits.
3. The new MIDI editor horizontal toolbar. Why is it semi-transparent? Looks really ugly to me when it overlaps data on the track above it. (ok, it wouldn't be the end of the world if this wasn't fixed
)
As I say. Love tracktion, but until at least one of my first 2 items above gets added, I really can't justify upgrading. (the loop recording is *nearly* enough, but not quite)

BUT ... I just saw the Cakewalk announcement that the new Sonar LE will be bundled with the Edirol UA soundcards and PCR MIDI keyboards... the very gear that I consistently recommend to all my students
With Live LE/Reason Adapted already bundled with the M-Audio alternatives, this all really re-writes the map for beginner/student/entry-level software...
Damn - I should have seen that coming
