midi generator

here's a "log" (heheheh...) of a midi generator's output, demonstrating improvements to my algo midi engine.. it's way boring cos you're listening to stuf liek me dragging the sequence around :p
http://www.xoxos.net/miditest.mp3
previous engine was driven by a pulse clock synced to transport and s&hed for random events.. do something like change the shuffle, you change the sequence..
new engine, different concept.. counter driven and host-sync driven so you can drop anywhere in song and get sync.. you can change the rate et c. and get the same sequence (!!!!)
you can offset/drag the pitch or gate sequence by n # of steps forward or backwards.. (just read that about limelite or ? here today.. started building that circuit yesterday.. more confluence..) transpose within key, increment by n for glisses.. polyphony..
'lobsterisation' timing doesn't affect content of repeated squence.. sequence can be dragged after or before the clock.
the 'more exciting part' (...) at the end is glissing thru different scales/modes (64!)
i don't use cc assigns for midi control.. my intent is to apply 33-64 for params?
intent is to make something playable as a live generator but also enuff mass ('couple or so of lfos..') to be useful for automation, eg. functions like incrementing pitch have a % trimmer.. hopefully also useful for some emulation tasks as well as creative.. okay..
think i can have lfo modes where eg. only binary temporal divisions are selected for lfo modulation of clock rate, so hope to cover some dynamics as such.. but plan on adding some more stuf like trill % function or something.
big improvement on old techniques, eg. auto tempo syncing.. comparatively very few limitations actually on what i'm able to do.. atm one of which is that randomised timing variation function is going to be cpu better if it doesn't have to repeat the same.. big gripe to anyone else, worth a bit of cpu for that exactly repeating sloppiness? lfos applied to eg. clock offset would have similar effect and be synced.. i thinking cpu best very low, but my box is 1.2g.
anyone got any requests or suggestions before i start to wrap it up? free bird?

That sounds really interesting xoxos. Ive been trying to get into algorithmic comosing recently, and have been using KCS Omega (Atari software) running on 'Steem' via midi yoke into Ableton live or EnergyXT. It's been problematic because KCS Omega is not exactly intuitive (to say the least) and /i'm not sure about midi yoke. I've had some success using your plugins, particularly 'Scribe' in Ableton live utilising their 'follow actions'.
I've played around with the Koan pro demo a few times, and while i love their idea of having different types of interactive generation tracks, like 'leaders, followers, ambient, rhythm and programmed tracks, the synths are terrible.
It'd be great to have something like Koan as a plugin to use within a modular VST host. A huge project I know, man I wish i could code.
I'm liking your plugins a lot though, looking forward to trying this new one too. I don't suppose you feel like having a go at a vst version of koan pro do you?

If I only knew what this was doing at all...

I'm sure It'll inspire you in some strange way, if you can get yer head round it. I'm messing around with ArtSong at the moment, spent most of the day scratching my head trying to get it to generate some chord strucurexoxos wrote:i've never tried it, but mebbe can leech sumpin to add to my razle dazle kit

very interesting..Thanks, xoxos, I'm sure I'll find a very lazy way of misusing this..

A Karma-esque generation of MIDI notation as a VST? Genius! This is truly unique folks. I'm looking very foward to using it for texture generation if nought else.
On a side note, I feel that using algorithmic or aleatoric notation generation to form traditional "music" or even worse "chords" is a mindset that would cause one to miss the point entirely.
I think plugs such as this (and those surely to come) are for the benefit and creation of a musical "genre" or as Rurik would say, "meme" that is yet to come. Same goes for such thing as modular hosts (i.e. Bidule, EnergyXT). Our paradigm of what electronic music truly is must shift (hopefully soon) because our tools of the electromusic future are already starting to arrive (before we even know what they're truly for... like hammering with a lazer.) Of course, that's all just IMHO and I really don't know anything at all so please no hating.
XOXOS for president!

That kind of depends on what you actually see as being the 'point'JackDark wrote:On a side note, I feel that using algorithmic or aleatoric notation generation to form traditional "music" or even worse "chords" is a mindset that would cause one to miss the point entirely.
Ok, maybe not, but it'd be better than trance chords.

Hey, ckchords is great! I've been wanting something like this for a long time -- all the previous chord generators I've seen play the same type chord for each root, rather than varying the chord type to match the key.
But I haven't figured out all the controls, though, in particular, those on the right hand side.
Thanks!

it's a super quick hack job.. ~ a wrapper for a new ck module, seen a few people mention stuff w/ it coming out, hope to do chris' work justice sometime soon.

could this also be done in a version that drives a drum machine that you are also the creator of? of course it could drive any drum machine, but yours will be true relatives. I don't know, I'm bad at requests, suggestions. I just find everything you do very exciting. it's like christmas for a little kid when you come up with something new. I just can't wait to get my hands on this.
