I'm just going to say this because this is how I feel.
Good: I request that loop recording feature here in this forum several months ago, it got lots of attention and that was nice, and now it's in the package. So great customer service.
Bad: I had hoped that Tracktion 2 would be a notch up to big daddy sequencer, making it compete with the other big players. This hasn't happened. Instead, I receive a bunch of bundled plugins that I don't need/want and a cardboard box I don't want, all of which I have to pay for. I want to pay for just a sequencer. The concept was light and clean, remember?
Lastly, while this program is inexpensive, one can actually pick up a 'light' version of Cubase for about £90, and truth told while harder to use, its infinetly more powerful.
And, seeing as my feature request last time did so well received, this time I would like to request (much like most others here) clip automation.

cubase isn't infinitely more anything than anything, unless you mean it's infinitely more 'cubase sucks' than anything else.

Any light version of Cubase isn't anything better than Tracktion. And Tracktion DOES compete with larger apps. As a matter of fact, Tracktion has had features the others have, for longer than they had them!
For instance, Cubase 3 introduced inline MIDI editing. Oops, T beat it by a LONG shot.
Next, Logic came out with the Freeze function. Oops again, since Tracktion actually had it first!
The thing is that T is not bloatware. So what if Cubase has a million features. Most people will never use half of them and so many of them are bugged that it's near impossible to call them useful.
Again, this is just a set of opinions.
This doesn't take away from the light and clean-ness of Tracktion. Where has that been comprimised? A box? Not hardly! Included plugs? I recall so many users complaining about how the included plugs with T1 were crap and they wanted more, and better. So Jules and Mackie listened, and now people complain?!?!?!
It's not going to be able to make everyone happy. But anyone who says that it's just a small upgrade is saying so unfounded, as it's quite evident the power of T. It's right up there with the rest, and above IMO.

Just a thought... Logic 7.1 upgrade was recently announced, and- if I'm reading the description correctly- is just now getting an easy, convenient way to move a mixer channel's plugin order around...

cmon folks be fair - what T does T does well - but the big boys have *some* capabilities that T doesn't. DP for example has.....
good pitch/timeshifting.
Beat detection and
audio quantization
excellent tempo and midi editing: eg scale tempo to end at ----, reshape controller curves
OMF, mp3, patch lists
surround mixing
and my favorinte - adjust beats while preserving real-time tempo (this last lets you create a tempo map to a recording which was recorded free and then quatize later events to it.)
and on and on.
all that said I prefer to work in Tracktion because it doesn't make my brain hurt.
But T should be enhanced in an orderly way preserving its great ease-of use to take care of as many "deal-breakers" as possible otherwise it will die and that would be a big drag!
folks its "tough love" - if T is going to survive its owners and developer need to hear all these gripes - lets hope they do!

I will just add that nonetheless, I will probably still be buying T2. Honestly, though, whatever you guys say, I know full well it doesn't compete with the big boys. Logic and Cubase don't cost £700 for nothing.
Frankly though, if the midi clip automation thing gets sorted (and given the fuss I'm sure it will be T2.1), and there is a downloadable, no strings attached version, I will be happy

you know, therefore it's true!
in my eyes T2 DOES compete with t' big boys, and outstrips them becuase it's just much better for what i want. of course, someone with a need for a particular Logic feature will need to spend the extra.. but then there's always going to be something that costs a billion pounds that's got the secret tool twenty people need. that doesn't mean that the program that does everything else in a much more efficient way doesn't compare.

Tracktion kicks Dps butt in the interface, vi implementation, object-orientedness (routing layering) , workflow, and efficiency - which is a hell of a lot.
But some of the old stuff - midi and tempo editing - pitch shifting, and some of the pro stuff - omf, mp3, surround need to be added.
won't hurt T to have that stuff!

Depending on what you want to do, T either does compete or it doesn't. It all depends on you. Will T2 as it stands displace the DAW Kings from their thrones? I'd say 'no' because it is lacking some key features. But whether it does or not really is irrelevant if it fits your needs.
