I was messing with the color scheme editor and realized that it would be a whole lot easier to keep consistent colors if there was like eight boxes that you could fill with the custom colors that you could apply with one click to a part of the UI. Kind of like alot of color pickers in graphics apps.

I do love the color thing though. It will likely keep me busy, seeing as you can change the color of almost everything.

yeah, it's quite a task to go thru it all, too. i guess it's possible for some bored soul to make a custom 'T2 Scheme Designer App' that makes scheme files in a different way. perhaps you could pick a general colour and it could shade all the other elements in a specified manner and spit out the xml for the scheme.

heck, i might even do it when i finish my exams :hihi:

hey not a bad idea :!:

I also think this would be useful, but just like Tracktion does for audio, the current color schemes window forces me to actually look at what I'm doing and choosing a color based on what I see, not on the exact numbers that I think I want to use. I've only made the one skin so far, but I think this actually made my skin more usable. By using slightly different shades of the same color, there's a lot of cohesiveness where I wanted it, but there's also enough contrast to distinguish between the different UI elements.

I think a simple eyedropper tool would be enough for me.

you can get freeware eyedropper tools i believe that let you get the color from something on the screen. i don't know any names tho.. then you just type in the values i guess.

i agree tho that it's kinda fun to just pick the colors each time; you do get inherently varied hues, just subtle enough to give it all a cuteness that would otherwise be missing. that's how i feel anyway! still, there are some elements that you invariably want to be a similar color. perhaps an app could be knocked up that renders a mock-up T screen for a given colorset, and a whole heap of different color editing options could be possible.

such as: pick an overall color, or two or perhaps 3 colors, and hit a randomise button to subtly generate variations for the various elements. the mock-up screen could update with the new generated colors and you can export one when you're happy.

perhaps there could be several different 'templates' that specify how the colors are distributed from the base selection (such as 1 color: background with lighter additional elements; background with darker additional elements; etc.. templates for 2 colors, 3 colors blehbleh)

right this is stupid for me to be using up my 2:24am brainpower developing an app that needn't exist! :D

I was thinking the same thing (about picking an overall color), but I really wouldn't want Jules to spend too much time working on the color schemes editor. I'd be all for a third party app though, and since it's all coming from a simple XML file, it shouldn't be all that difficult to do. The templates idea is a really nice one too. Of course, then you'd have to have a template editor, and so on... :)

That's another reason I suggested the buttons. I don't think it would take too long to add that, especially with the way JUCE is designed. And Jules could probably do it in about 10 minutes knowing him!

I would download it. I love changing the colors of T2, it's one of the things I wished for in T1.

only problem is, how would you be able to preview it without going back into tracktion and loading it up?

have a 'mock-up' of it in the editor program, which would be a bit of a chore to make but possible...

or just load it into T2 :D it's not like you'd need to close T2 to do it. heck, you could even make it as a VST and then have it REALLY feel integrated :hihi:
