Anyone doing video in T2?

Just looking for tips here. I opened a short file and basically got nowhere with it. I unmuted the audio but still can't hear it (can hear another track that was in the edit tho). Other than watching the video play, I'm lost.
Oops! My wife just told me it's 11:30--I'll be back in the morning.
Thanks in advance.

Video in T2 is basically a preview window that can be locked to your track so you can see which frame you are at where the cursor is. You can get some info in that thread:http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81733. I haven't had problem getting the sound in T thought.
The way I work now is that I set marker on the Vegas timeline, read the timeline as bars and beats and take notes of the differents marker then switch to T to make the music bed. The problem with that is the switching back and forth between the 2 apps.
The new video functionality is quite limited in T2, you can't see markers that you've setup in another app and you can't view the video on the timeline. So I thought I'd set the markers in T itself while the video is playing, but you're limited to 10 markers, and you can't name them to something sensible. I don't think it'll be worth the render time for me for now so I don't think I'll be using it much in it's current configuration; it's a step in the right direction, but too basic to be of much usefullness to me for the time behing.

I know this is a workaround... but you can create a track and insert labeled midi clips as detailed track markers. Just thought I'd throw that out there...Ezy Ryder wrote:The new video functionality is quite limited in T2, you can't see markers that you've setup in another app and you can't view the video on the timeline. Thanks ModuLR; that is a clever solution! Anyone else want to share their expertise in working with video?ModuLR wrote: I know this is a workaround... but you can create a track and insert labeled midi clips as detailed track markers. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

thx!ModuLR wrote:options -> set quicktime mov fileDef Dave wrote:how do I even import a *.mov into T2?
But directly after posting I said to myself: "RTFM"... so I found the solution myself. I am quite disappointed though that I can't render a mov file as an output option.

At that point though you are walkign a fine line between video scoring and video editing. MAybe one day Tracktion will develop video editing support, but I imagine that other, more fundamental issues would be a priority.Def Dave wrote:I am quite disappointed though that I can't render a mov file as an output option.

I wish there was more to video, though im glad it's in now. Cant imagine scrubbing with video to be very difficult to implement.. or is it?
Also im surpriswed to note that T2 is also limited to 10 markers only. Surprised it skipped my mind to bring this up before.. 999 marker support, along with marker labeling, is atleast a must. Hope to see this around in the revisions.

Good day and thanks guys. I take it I can't hear my file just because. I'll grab some others and see if I have better results.

Yes, and I've read somewhere that music app like T are tempo map based (bar/beats), while NLE are tmecode based, a needed thing for locking sound stream to video stream. I say keep video editing to NLE, and music to music app like Tracktion.valley wrote:At that point though you are walkign a fine line between video scoring and video editing. Very clever and not just for video work, thank's.ModuLR wrote:I know this is a workaround... but you can create a track and insert labeled midi clips as detailed track markers. Just thought I'd throw that out there...
I'm just wondering, how hard can it be to add marker capability up to, say, 99 and having the capability of naming them?

yes, video editing should be left to video packages. T's qt support is a very handy feature, but there's no point in it becoming a mediocre video platform, when it's designed to make music.
i'm not sure how easy it would be to use the markers tho if we were able to have loads.. perhaps the 10 could remain as 'major markers' (for the shortcut key combos) and the others could just be visual things that you can add yourself and pick from a list to goto (with next/prev marker jump-to shortcuts too). it would be rubbish to make us need to 'type' a number rather than the handy 0-9 quick keys it has at the moment.

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

This may be a bit off topic, but how does Vegas video editing compare to e.g. Premiere? And can't you make music in Vegas like you do in ACID?Ezy Ryder wrote:The way I work now is that I set marker on the Vegas timeline, read the timeline as bars and beats and take notes of the differents marker then switch to T to make the music bed. My fantasy is an integrated app doing audio and video. I don't expect that to happen, and Final Cut is just too good to give up anyway.Ezy Ryder wrote:Yes, and I've read somewhere that music app like T are tempo map based (bar/beats), while NLE are tmecode based, a needed thing for locking sound stream to video stream. Or some great integration with Final Cut where one can click on the audio tracks, and they open up in Tracktion? and when one saves it auto updates in FCP. Logic may get there since they are both Apple.
Tracktion will display in seconds/frames with options for 24, 25 and 30... nice option to have.
