If you didn't read about it yet, Avid has released ProTools LE that will work with some M-audio cards.
Advertised price is $299.
Details are found on the M-audio site.

Compatibility with pro mastering houses - very nice and maybe just worth the little bit of extra cash over T2.

Pro mastering houses can't deal with WAVs then?rockstar_not wrote: Compatibility with pro mastering houses -
Give it a bit of time and they'll all have a copy of Tracktion anyway!

Yes, the website states 32 audio tracks (doesn't mention that they are mono though I could believe that), but it's Re-Wire compatible - so you could use T1 for a VST host, Re-Wired into ProTools, correct?
It's got the Beat Detector module for time stretch stuff that is still missing in T2.

Huh...
Being both a Tracktion *and* a ProStools LE (w. Mbox) user, I'd have to say that if sound design/recording is your focus, go w/ PT LE. If you're writing music on your computer, esp. using software instruments, go w/ Tracktion.
As for me, I use both. Tracktion is great for quick down and dirty work. I tend to use PT more for finishing/intensive mixing/mastering work, tho' that may change pending how I feel about T2 (haven't dl'd the demo). FinalMix has given certain plugs (like T-Racks) a run for their money. If you're concerned about VST compatibility in PT, fXpansion's VST-RTAS converter, whilst a tad buggy, is pretty solid.

I don't think so. I believe Tracktion will only re-wire as master, not slave.. and I would guess PT is the same.rockstar_not wrote:you could use T1 for a VST host, Re-Wired into ProTools, correct?

Tracktion only functions as a rewire master. On this board, I suggested a vst instrument sequencing only version of Tracktion that would function as a Rewire Slave a while back. I thought that such a version would give Reason and Pro5 some real competition, but nobody else at the time seemed interested.platinumears wrote:I don't think so. I think the price is way to high. It's basicly ProTools LE without the Mbox and they sell it for $300? That suggests the Mbox is only $100, since a Mbox with PT LE costs about $400

don't let these crapheads with their hohum technology spread their dominion any further. I want creative tools not "Pro" tools!
And I won't pay half again as much for non-native plugs just so I can run them on 24 bit hardware bus neither.

OK,
I'm convinced for now that PTLE with M-Audio is not the way to go.
Anyone with experience easily exporting a T2 multi-wav file into ProTools?
I just know that I can't master - I am clueless about it. I want to be able to ship projects to a mastering house in an easy format and being able to send a PT project would be a nice feature to have. Perhaps multi-wav export will do this.

Mastering houses don't want multi-track files ie more than stereo. I have never heard of a mastering house wanting a pro-tools file.

Maybe not useful for mastering but useful for mixing in another application or to collaborate with users with other sequencers. So a big improvement in T2 is the ability to render each track of an edit to a different wav in one step. Don't have the demo handy to check it but it should be there (at least that's what I remember being said - somebody verifiy me)rockstar_not wrote:OK,

what is becoming more common is to supply versions of the mix as multiple "stems". ie: sub-mixes of drums, vocals, guitars etc. which, when mixed together at unity gain, produce your final mix.rockstar_not wrote:Well, semiquaver wrote:Mastering houses don't want multi-track files ie more than stereo. This gives the mastering engineer the flexibility to (eg) turn up the vocals if he thinks it needs it, without having to resort to techniques such as multiband compression.
However, multiple WAV files all starting from the same point is just as good as a pro-tools project if they are using pro-tools, and much more convenient if they're not.
