Erm... help!

I've been playing with the T2 demo for two days since returning from my hols (not continuously, you understand!)...

... and I can;t for the life of me see where the MIDI mapper is that was announced on the Mackie site.

Under external controllers it lists the Mackie Control Universal and C4, but nothing else.

I went into Acrobat Reader and did a search of both the user and reference guides under "MIDI mapper" and "MIDI control surface" and found to my surprise that neither phrase ever appears in either document. So no help from there, then

Can anyone advise?

PS, my controller is the M-Audio Ozonic Firewire MIDI keyboard controller/audio interface (Lovely bit of kit, by the way - strongly recommended

)

Automation > Create MIDI Controller Mappings (default shortcut: Shift-Ctrl-M)

Click on the "automation" button in the edit page

There you can choose what controls which.
Downside is, it seems you have to create one set per edit, meaning doing it all again each time you start a project.

That's a helluva downside. Can't you save them somehow (once I've found them in the first place!)

Am I getting a blank screen because Tracktion doesn't recognise M-Audio gear?

On your systems, does your controller appear on the settings page under "external controllers"?

About that Ozonic, how are the knobs and sliders? On my Radium 49, there's a substantial amount of zippering, with less than 10 CC messages per second being sent, making it completely useless for real-time automation (though still useful for synth programming).

Also, are the DAC/ADCs any good?

The screen is blank at first.
You have to click in the left column, then move a controller... tada. then choose the assignation on the right side panel.

You do know that the MIDI mapper is just a way to remap MIDI CC changes to VST automation, right? It has nothing to do with specific controllers.

remember that that the recorded automation will *not* have the zippering as Tracktion's automation records points then interpolates between them.

Yeah, I know, but I wasn't referring to using it specifically with Tracktion. And even with T, the whole problem is that with low update frequency and 40mm faders, it's easy to over/undershoot the parameter value that I'm going for in real-time.

edit: hah, way too slow. I gotta work on my typing speed some more.

Seem robust enough for desktop use. Would definitely exercise care in a live context though.

Not noticed any problems there. Perhaps because it's firewire?

I think so, yes. The whole family instantly noticed the inprovement in sound quality e.g. when playing back CDs from the laptop.

Previously I had an Edirol UA20, which was entry-level USB 1 with 24/96. I thought that was fine until I got Ozonic. Now i can't believe the difference.

But it's fairly new out of course, so I've just had it about one month, half of which I was away on holiday, so early days yet.

Regarding the MIDI controller aspect, I've tried it in Live 4 (excellent MIDI learn there, and the controller makes a power of difference) and in Reason 2.5. (As soon as the Props add a template for Ozonic in R3.0 I'll upgrade to that - the controller mapping is said to be outstanding in that, so we'll see).
